I just thought I would that watching this convinced me to buy one, that's a that I will never regret. I've had better and more accurate 22lr's over the years but none this handy and useful, it saves space when going on a hunting trip and is quick and simple to swap out when I want to shoot small game around camp or a few cans for fun. Its a little picky about ammunition but really shines with the rounds it likes. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending any R93 owners snap one up on the second hand market if you cant get a new one, you will never find a shot out one.

Pretty much all 22lr are picky about ammo in the sense of what shoots good. Nowadays most shoot sub moa 10 shot groups with any ammo at 50 meters, but at 100 you will see huge differences.

vajake1 No it is going towards spring now and temperatures have been above freezing for quite some time when the sun is up. It can be converted to 22LR and 17 HMR, but I think the production has stop. I originally bought this barrel with plans of indoor training in winter, but I have never gotten around to doing it. As a hunting rimfire, you'd be much better off with a dedicated rimfire rifle.

Great training tool but I would suspect that you could have bought a dedicated .22 rifle for the price of the conversion kit. I had a CZ 452 for years but just recently changed to Ruger 12/22 target tac. Great rifle. Keep up the good work Thomas.

Paul Dowling Yes absolutely. Actually I can't "afford" to run this 22LR barrel as the cost of a scopemount alone equals a CZ rifle these days.

Until recently I owned a Sako Quad 17 HMR. Before that I had a CZ 455 22LR. I for sure recommend the 17 HMR, it's a fantastic caliber. Allready saving money to buy back a 17 HMR, probably CZ this time due to costs. Good entertainment watching your movies. See you at the range in the near future. Waiting impatiently for my scope to arrive...

HOLY SHIT THAT IS AN AWESOM KIT ! I was wondering in Blog 135 @ 1:00 I noticed the cut out on the barrel and I figured the scope, rings, and rail something was up. Just didn't understand "Housekeeping" ? I'm telling ya Thomas that is an awesome system you have for that Blaser. I frigg'n love it !

Yep, R93 22lr kit ....... The most fun you can have with your clothes on ! I wouldn't be too worried about the 17hmr Thomas. Mine wasn't half as accurate as the 22lr no matter what brand ammo I fed it, and dealing with the split cases, gets old real quick ;)

I think the R8 version is built to fit into the trigger group like the ordinary magazines. To me, both the R93 and R8 has become the same rifle. I do like the detachable trigger group for travel, easier to pack separate than the long bolt.

Beware the man with one gun...this is to shooting as the simulator is to flying ...many many reps of muscle memory that can be done in the back yard. Sh-t ammo or not this can be fun. My .22LR Savage with a Pride Fowler BDR scope is fun to 200 yards and makes me make a wind call. The one coyote I got with my 22 was like killing a bear. GREAT CHOICE

Jeg har både Contessa og Blaser, begeg var one-size da jeg kjøpte. Nå som termiske sikter er mer vanlig finnes det en rekke varianter på lengde. Hvis du kan unngå picatinny på Blaser, så unngå. Totalvekten på montasjen blir ganske høy sammenliknet med en sadelmontasje.

James Ward - Northern Foxing With the benefit of hindsight a CZ is what I should have bought. With the volume I shoot 22 LR, I would have been just as well off with 17 HMR.

LongRangeNut The picatinny rail is an original Blaser and the scope rings are American Rifle Company (or similar name). I have since this film moved the mounts over to my S&B PMII scope so I can mount it with a better eye relief than with the original Blaser saddle mount (the rail makes it possible to move the scoperings more).

***** If you aren't happy with the performance of standard .22LR. Get yourself the CCI Stinger. 30gr @ 1600-1800 fps. That’s quite close to .22WMR Hope that helps you getting your smiling back. ;-)

Long range Ben I want this setup to be quiet, so I'd go the subsonic way. At present I don't have any dedicated subsonic ammunition, but with that the rifle is silly quiet and really nice to practice the trigger with.

***** Oh, ok in the description it said your preferred the .17HMR for small game hunting. So I assumed you go hunting with that setup. For subsonic use, .17HMR would be the worse choice. SK makes good subs. In .22, good price with Lapua quality. Still if you choose to hunt: CCI Stingers. See, plenty of choice with .22LR ;-)

Good deduction! Yes, I would have preferred the 17 hmr if I'd done any actual hunting with this barrel, but as it is I use it for targets only (and rarely so) so subsonic would be best due lack of noise.

Yes, it was a Leupold Mk 4 with 1/2 MOA click turrets. I believe it was 3,5-10x40 or similar.

Mechanically it is very nice, but I found it lacking in resolution. I only shot one bird with it (female capercaill). I could clearly see the feathers in my binoculars (180 meters), but was unable to see it in the scope. I ended up referencing the bird location of details I could see in both binos and scope and just put the bullet there. It was a very long process and I was lucky the bird stayed put the whole time. After that, I sold the Leupold scope.

Well, actually american rifle matches are small compared to Norwegian ones. Our national competitions draws 7-10.000 competing shooters plus family and audience and airs primetime on national television the whole week. In areas, up to 10% of the population are hunters/shooters and we have one of the highest firearms densities around. There is no hate against american made products. A lot of them are very good for their price. But there is a mismatch when american companies advertise their products in Europe. If advertisements are handled by the company itself, the product is usually presented amongst the lines of "ultimate". An European company will put out their product as "good". When the consumer oriented magazines submit both product to a lab test (for example SAAB test laboratories), for example the "ultimate" optics will score 60-70% on various tests, whist the "good" product scores 85-90%. So the perceived hostility isn't against the product, it is against how SOME american manufacturers blow their own horn without being able to back up their claims inproduct quality. For example, Vortex as you mentioned, has been hugely successful in Europe as there is a match between advertisement and product quality. Other brands are is at the opposite end of the scale and basically flop in Europe and amazingly those companies don't see the errors in their ham-fisted approach after 20 years of trying to take market shares. If you try to pound an European dealer into submission, he will simply throw out your products. So in that cultural difference, you will find why SOME american products are really struggling to take a portion of the European market. Again, companies such as Vortex use a different approach and have very different results.
