I've noticed with this one that people tend to vary wildly on how peated they perceive it to be. For me, I find it as peated as Ardbeg 10 (which makes sense, both are peated to around 50 ppm). It's a fantastic dram though and I'm probably picking up an 18 soon (although a few other things are on my list, a Kavalan is currently very tempting). In South Africa it's usually under R800 where Springbank 10 is ludicrously priced at around R900 and Kilkerran 12 and Ardbeg 10 are usually around R700. Springbank 12 cs (R1200) and Kilkerran 8 cs (R900) are real steals, not sure if we're getting any of the 2019 Kilkerran 8 cs and due to the current world situation stuff is stuck at ports or not yet bottled etc. etc.

Love the Longrow Red Malbec ... have really enjoyed that a lot. Haven’t had a chance to try this one yet!

I enjoyed this one a lot, guys! It was only a sample... Whole bottles of Longrow are hard to come by around here, but at least Springbank 10 and 15 have become easier to find of late.

Solid review lads and I'm so glad you did this instead of all the crazy limited Longrow. The beauty of Springbank is the fine quality of their core range at a good price. Far too many folk trying to get those unicorn releases and missing the essence of great whisky at a good price. Springbank 10/ Hazelburn 10/ Longrow Peated are damned good whiskys at good prices. I'm not sure I enjoy the 18 year old varieties more enjoyable. Seriously, after so many years of reviewing everything under the sun, I'm enjoying reviews of great value, possibly younger, whisky. I think we need to go back to our roots and reassess less expensive whisky and see how our palates and experience appreciate them now. Longrow Peated is a perfect example. Cheers my good friends. Bart, for the intro-level peat recommendation, try Ledaig 10... also, there is an independent bottling (Islay Single Malt 6 year old by James MacArthur...maybe a young Lagavulin??) that also is very tasty (just enough peat to keep you excited, but not enough peat to ruin a newbie's day). Both are delicious, even though you can't beat Lagavulin, Ardbeg, and the other big boys. Keep up the good work guys!

Just opened a bottle this week. Fantastic stuff and a great value at $60. Think I prefer this to Springbank 10. Think what Bart is getting is that this is Highland peat from Inverness instead of Islay peat from Port Ellen. Islay peat has decomposed seaweed kelp and saltwater that has a very different character. Cheers Guy's

Springbank also has the Longrow and Hazleburn lines of singlemalts. Glen Scotia and Glengyle( Kilkerran) are a couple of the other Campbeltown distilleries.

I'll remind you guys of a Bart story from quite a while back... Bart was introducing someone to whisky and during the show he told Scott that he had this 'new to whisky' person trying to take tiny sips of Jack Daniels 'Double B' (Barrel Proof, Single Barrel). Similar story. I recall Bart trying to present the point that if you can get past the extreme strength, the taste is really nice. I agree on that. Back then I even wrote to you guys trying to explain a special sipping technique I worked out for the Double B, which was 'frothing.' You don't sip the liquid... you make a pursed lips sipping thing like sipping ultra hot coffee where what you really do is take in a 'froth' of the liquid. That gives you almost a vapor... micro droplets or something. The Double B is so strong, it really burns. You either dilute it, or maybe try the frothing sip technique. I wouldn't try to teach a beginner how to do that. Scott as maybe rightly (maybe not) raggin' on Bart for the audacity of picking Double B for a beginner... It made a great story. Cheers!

Would be interesting to know what's the peatiest whisky for Bart. Imo it's very hard to beat Laphroaig 10 CS. For my palate it's peatier than Octomore and other heavily peated whiskies

This is a very good option if you find Islay whisky too perverted or gross, but still want to try sth peated. I liked it from the first sip on, esp it's fruityness. Great choice, Gents!
