Even when ported onto console its amazing. I'm currently playing through it on the hardest difficulty, there's so much more depth when you're constantly trying to stay alive by employing different tactics only for the game to throw curveball after curveball to keep you challenged. Easy and Normal are content tourist modes, they make it less impactful and take away the survival element more because of the abundance of health and ammo you get

Fun fact: The Dreamcast and the PS2 versions of Half-Life is actually a port from the PC version of Half-Life Version 1.0.0.9. This is because the head bobbing feature is still in the console versions of Half-Life. The only difference is that the PS2 version is more enhanced than the PC and the Dreamcast versions of Half-Life.

Extra THICC Actually the enhancements were originally made for Sega Dreamcast and than modified for Playstation 2. The Dreamcast and Playstation 2 both have enhancements models. It wasn't in PC. You do realize that PS2 look identical to the Dreamcast version in terms of graphics, right? The only difference is the scientist eyes move around, their fingers are open and the level design is slightly more detailed than Dreamcast but otherwise look the same since it was developed by Gearbox software who also made the Dreamcast version.

I have the Dreamcast Versions, and the principal issues are, 1.- non-solid frame rates 2.- Useless Flashlight 3.-VERY DARK ENVIROMENTS 4.- Awful Controls Thats all 7/10 Port, Better graphics than Pc ver in the moment, and Some frame drops bur in very VERY weird moments it gets 60fps ;)

I noticed the health and HEV suit charger stations, like at 1:03:57, look much better than the PC version even when you enable the high definition models. It looks like Valve copied all the HD models from the PS2 (and Dreamcast) but forgot to bring over the HD health and HEV suit station.

This game was also made for Sega Dreamcast. Playstation 2 port has auto save, better graphics and faster loading times but the Dreamcast version (never released) has Blue Shift exclusive mission created only on Dreamcast. By the way Dreamcast has Half Life Grunt, Counter Strike DC, They Hunger, Half life Paranoia, Goldeneye Half life, Half life Black Ops, and Gunman Chronicles.The Dreamcast version is complete but has few bugs, glitches and crashes in certain parts.

The ps2 version doesn't have autosave. You have to manually save or else you lose your progress.

LittleJerryFan92 you are wrong. it was the PlayStation 2 version has auto save. the unreleased Dreamcast version of Half-Life has no auto save. it instead uses password codes to advance in a level. it jumps from 24 blocks to 80 blocks to save onto a vmu due to the fact developers didn't had time to tweak saving issues.

I don't know what you're talking about, because I own a copy of the ps2 version, and the only options they give you are quick save if you want to save at a specific location if you'e gone through a tough area and don't want have to re-do that section and manually saving the game at the "mid menu" section. It doesn't automatically save when you reach another part of the game, at least not that I've seen it. (for the record BTW, I own the American release so idk if it's a foreign copy that has autosave or not).

I vividly remember this because I forgot to quick save for the first 30 or so minutes of my playthrough then shut off the console and lost all my progress lol. Quick save acted as a checkpoint system basically, but if you shut off the console and turned it back on you could only load whatever your last manual save was.

There is no harm in making your own playthrough if you want to. I play like a total idiot in these videos, completely ignoring the crossbow in the second half of the game, and I quick save nearly every minute of play. It wouldn't take much for you to make something better than my own output.

Most fifth and sixth generation games that support widescreen aren't in anyway similar to what we got following the leap to high definition around 2005-ish. Half-Life in particular was supposed to have "widescreen" but what this means is that the game simply crops the picture from 4:3 (i.e. lopping off the top and bottom portions of the screen) rather than giving a genuine 16:9 presentation. In retrospect, I would have preferred uploading these videos in full-frame, pillar-boxed, rather than as you see it here, but alas, what's done cannot be undone.

Louis B To be honest, there’s still a fair amount of space to actually see around you. The reason certain games “crop” vertically when in widescreen is simply to avoid distortion. Either the geometry would be out of place or the camera would distort because the FOV is too zoomed out.

Yeah. I used a cheap and nasty SCART-to-HDMI converter. It is possible to force 480p on Half-Life though if you happen to have access to custom firmware on your PS2 (GS Mode Selector).
