I drive past Longwood 3 to 4 times a day on my way to my office and have been watching the transformation over the last few years. It’s very exciting. I can’t wait to see the new wing. It’s an absolute privilege to live so close to such a national treasure. Thank you so much for this video!

This was a magnificent video. You did such a great job of showing us so much beauty. I loved it. I can only imagine people becoming disoriented and falling in the water. Time to go slow and be cautious. The new building is amazing. I would love to be in there in a rain storm, a snow storm, and every other time. Such beauty. What is the temperature in the new building? The library and classrooms were new to me. I enjoyed seeing that. One of my daughter has a degree in horticulture. She would love it. The Bonsai gardens are considered World-class and can be preserved outside in the winter by keeping their soil warm. Guess those gardeners are geniuses. Since they are conifers, they are quite hardy. Thank you for a great video.

Thankyou for walking us through so much beauty! I must admit,though...My husband and I were kind of sad walking through the new building. We have been members since 1998,when our oldest child was learning to walk. 2 of our daughters had marriage proposals at Longwood. It is such a chershed place,filled with family memories. We greatly miss the way it was! My husband said the new building felt cold,futuristic,kind of like ""Star-Trek"" vibes. He did say,also,that perhaps he felt that way because it was cloudy that day. What we were happy to see was that the Cascade Garden kinda felt like it was before...like they had actually kept the original room. So we did get nostalgic vibes there. I am heartbroken that they took apart the IDEA GARDEN.... 😭😭😭😭 It was one of my favorite spots!
@quietplaces20182 ай бұрын
Oh I forgot about the Idea Garden! Yes definitely miss that! I actually liked the. We building. I think it’s super relaxing but definitely modern. But I like that you have the traditional East part of the Conseryand now the modern West part. It’s a good thing they have lots of gardens for all our different tastes!!!! Thanks for your awesome comments! We appreciate that ! Have a wonderful day! 🩷🎄😊

Thank you for your tour. I’ve recently gone as well. The new building is lovely and as you say, very peaceful and calming. However, it seemed like a lot of water on the south side. I wonder if they would ever fill in some of that water area and put in plantings? Aesthetically, its lovely, but I kept having the feeling I would fall in the water. If I were walking along one of those paths, and someone brushed against me, I think I could lose my balance and go right in. Those inches high railings would do nothing but trip me up. I feel much better in the few areas where the railings are a couple feet high. I heard someone say they would leave around 20 of the hardiest bonsais outside for the winter and bring the rest inside. The Cascade Garden is the exact same design, stone by stone, as the old one but is actually more spacious than it was before so is more open feeling.

Yea the falling in the water feeling is definitely a little bit uncomfortable for sure! I actually just filmed the Longwood Christmas and I really enjoyed it. Everything was beautiful! The video came out yesterday if you’re interested! I Hope you have a great day and Happy Thanksgiving ! 😊🩷 Thank you for the Bonsai information!!

Thanks for sharing. Not impressed by the new conservatory. A shame they got rid of the palm house. Hopefully the waterlily garden is better.

Sure thing. Lots of folks aren’t liking this new wing it seems. It’s a good thing there’s so many different gardens here though for different tastes! I’m excited for the water lily garden too! Enjoy your day!!

I would not make a special trip to see this new wing no color gray and drab, a lot of money spent for no value added?

Going today. Ur video leaves me flat. Looks like a production house . No rooms!!! Seems like the traffic flow is horrendous. Lacks creativity and artistic depth. I’m disappointed! Hopefully seeing it in person will change my opinion. The person who designed the east conservatory was forced out because he stuck to his vision versus caving to their cooperate culture. Longwood has become an elitist cooperation. We prefer Chanticleer Garden in Devon. Chanticleer is top 10 in the world among professional horticultural people. They allow their gardeners creative freedom. U can picnic there. U can party there. It’s a far better experience than Longwood. Longwood no longer allows their gardeners to be creative. Cooperate executives require complete control and oversight How long before an elderly person or toddler falls in to the water. Horrible design. Again this is what happens when control if taken away from professional garden designers and given to know nothing bean counters. I’m so disappointed

Hopefully you’ll enjoy more when you’re there in person. Let us know how you felt about it

@ I’m here right now. West conservatory building 2/5. Lacks a focal point. Weird little cut outs cause traffic issues. Designed by landscape architects so it’s focused on views more than plants. Very few plants in bloom with a limited color pallet. People and kids will definitely end up in the water. Too much negative space. The new bonsai area is world class. Awesome area with incredible displays. The relocated bromeliad garden is a master class in moving a piece of history and art. The east conservatory has rooms and heavy artistic and horticulture elements. The new area does a poor job of complimentary design. It left all of us flat. While there are some cool plants like the silver palms from Madagascar and the flowering grevillea too many opportunities were missed and the water elements are static versus kinetic. The exterior reflection pools are already collecting leaves which will be an ongoing problem

Looks like an industrial complex in Dubai. Too few planting areas and way too much water, concrete, and stark architecture.

The older East Conservatory has a more lush garden landscape and there are lots of other gardens at Longwood to explore too!
