I wish companies would stop insulting the intelligence of consumers. I don't think anyone serious about getting a NAS is going to get something like this. You'd be doing yourself a huge disservice buying this over a proper NAS, especially for that price. I'm also not impressed with that software/web UI. Seems clunky and cheap. Maybe I've just been spoiled with Synology, but between the price and performance, you'd be way better off getting one of the cheaper Synology or QNAP. That said, thanks for another great video, Lon. 😅

Depends on your wants and needs I suppose. I was actually looking for DAS on the used marked, and there are several actual NAS aviable for basically the same as a DAS. As I am actually looking for DAS, you bet your Ass, that I'm not all that interrested about the NAS software. Whatever the Software can do - my server should be able to do run something similar. Albeit with more work/config propably, but I do enjoy a bit of tinkering. Sure, if you wanna run applications on there, I'd propably get something better. But if all you need is literally attached storage, nothing more, nothing less, I don't see why this shouldn't fullfill my needs. As for insulting customers intelligence... I know. I'd find it VERY refreshing, if companies would just be honest, I'd double down in buying from them! "Yeah, this is lacking many software feautres. We cut them to reduce cost. Buy this thingy if you don't mind, you ain't gonna get great software, but the network storage should be good enough, and you'll pay a lot less!"

Do you even think the consumers this is targeting are even looking at products like this in the first place. I mean if this is targeting the people I think it's targeting then most of the ones I know have no idea what a NAS is nor are they even looking/considering a device like this. They are just happy to have things stored on Google or iCloud etc etc.

you mentioned you expected better performance on the write but since they are in raid 1 it is only going to write at the max of one drive which I think would be around 110-120MB/s which is around the max of a 1 gig network?

disks write at way more than gig speeds nowadays. At least symmetrical up to 200MB/s..

@@LubomirGeorgiev Ironwolf 4tb real world is around 170MB/s so since this is no Ironwolf drive I am not surprised. In addition he got around 137MB/s on one test so kinda what you would expect from a low end NAS plug and play solution. Is it possible that those drive might be SMR which can slow write speeds down.

Hi Sam. This won’t be a good option for Plex. Seems too slow. This is basically a large external HD that the family can use as a cloud.

Surprised this doesn’t use UDP pin holing similar to Synology for remote access. I’m general please use VPN and not rely on their relay servers

I could not figure that out. I tried setting up open VPN on my synology nas, I couldn't figure it out. Got stuck at setting up Local DNS Server.

How much of a market is there actually for this? If I want easy storage I can use Google Drive or Dropbox for about $10 a month for 2 TB and if I'm researching/even know what a NAS is I'm going to look at something that does more... it may cost more but it'll do a ton more... This seems like a NAS for people who don't know A. How cheap cloud storage is now (I don't think these people exist) or B. That you can use an external HD for less (I don't think these people exist) or C. You can spend 500ish extra dollars and get 5000x better functionality (I don't think these people exist either)... so... who is this for... I'm not sure... which means no one...
