I'm surprised by how many people come away with a negative impression of him after watching this. He has weaknesses....just like every prospect...and some pretty eye-popping strengths too. (unlike every prospect) My goal with these videos is to be informative, not predictive. And 19-20 year olds have holes in their game. It's pretty much inevitable, and that's okay. I'm surprised by how many people aren't seeing the good in this video as well.

I played against Lonzo during AAU days and when I say he doesn't have experience running organize half court sets, he doesn't. The way he and his brothers play is always fast pace. Leaking out or throwing long outlet passes. All amazing shooters with weird forms. But I believe Lonzo will get better in his experience but he needs to approach the game better.

Denver Levins If by half court sets you mean pick and roll, yes he lacks the experience there. But in general he's running offense in the half court well at UCLA.

What I thought I'd see more of... just based on his speed in the open court is more of him breaking people down off the dribble - He's much more athletic than a lot of the scouts have him rated - I mean the kid is catching lobs off set plays for God's sake. But I think he's built for the run and gun style for sure but in the half court if it's not a semi-transition type look I do wonder how he functions in that offense. He has uncanny vision and I'd like to see him create his own shot a little more just to have some clarity regarding his talent. Great post bro!

No one should underestimate this guy. I would like to remind the consecutive air balls of Kobe Bryant against Utah when he was new to NBA. He became an unbelievable scorer then. In my opinion, most important developing area for Ball will be the shoots when he is contested. Because, in NBA he will play against better defenses.

Good analysis bro. I dnt understand why some laker fans want him. I'd go jackson. His J aint good yet, but he's an athletic wing and a good def and we need that. Dlo is better than this dude imo. long term, who knows. I mean we could get this dude and move dlo to the SG position. Dlo's game in. is more suited for SG position. Can post, catch and shoot, come off screens and shoot, play P&R. Clarkson, imo probably needs to get traded, if we are to get ball. It's too early to judge ball, but if I'm lakers I wouldn't choose him. if they do, I'd use him as trade bait. Markelle Imo is also a better option for us.

I see a lot of DEEP step back 3's in order for him to get space. I worry in the NBA he'll be at nearly half court in order to get space to get his shot off or he won't be able to get it off at all when the size/speed/strength/athleticism of all the opponents increase. Should still be great in transition and moving the ball though. Those near full court dimes he throws will be deadly on fast paced running teams.

Do you have any concerns over the fact that almost 3/4ths of his 3 pointers are on catch and shoots? He rarely creates enough space off the dribble to get off his jump shot and due to his shooting style I don't see this changing.
@crazysongfreak17 жыл бұрын
He won't be as good as expected in his rookie year but 2-3 years into his career he'll be ascending towards becoming an elite guard. He can't run a P&R whatsoever but he can play off ball because he's a good cutter and explosive.

If LA retains the pick then IMO Josh Jackson is our guy. One guy we should try and trade for is Willey-Cauley Stein. He's rotting on the Kings' bench. He'd be the perfect center for us. We could trade Williams/Zubak for him and McLemore Do all we can in order to trade assay Deng and Mozgov. PG DLo/JC SG Jackson/McLemore SF Ingram/Young PF Randle/Nance Jr. C WCS/Black That's our starting 5 of the future IMO. With a bench core of JC/Nance/Black for the future.

He'd be my 2nd choice if I'm the Lakers simply because I like Josh Jackson a little more (but ONLY a little, both players have their obvious strengths that could greatly benefit the team long-term). Still, the thought of a Ball/Russell backcourt is enough to make even the most skeptic Laker fan stop for a minute to imagine the possibilities of just such a pairing. His shooting form is funky as hell, but not the most unorthodox I've seen (Jamaal Wilkes and Shawn Marion immediately come to mind, lol). Besides, if it goes in roughly half the time that's enough for me! ;-D
@colonelangus68858 жыл бұрын
Some project Ball as the #2 pick in the draft. Why do you think he has that unorthodox (but effective) shooting style? Was it never corrected when he was young because he was making shots? In other words, if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

PnR is something he never did... i dont have any concern moving forward because that just takes repetition and getting comfortable with. Same with his midrange jumpers... the few that he did shoot he tend to bring the ball higher and a little bit more towards the center of his head, so i believe he will be able to get his shot off. Just have to get comfortable shooting them.

I honestly don't understand why people want these PG prospects and say to trade D'lo. D'lo is an incredible PG prospect, one of the best to come out in a while. He WILL be great. In this draft, Jackson and Isaac are the 2 I'd love to get. Long, athletic wings with two way potential. Fultz is nice too, but he's extremely similar to D'lo.
@lysakirk91767 жыл бұрын
Lonzos potential is far higher than DLo's.
@Ajn-qe5gi7 жыл бұрын
Bre'Shaun Barkus Lonzo has more defensive potential, nowhere near D'angelo's offensive potential.
@rayrude57058 жыл бұрын
do you think the Lakers should swap D'Angelo for Ball? I think if D'Angelo ends up having a mediocre year the Lakers might heavily consider trading Russell for a center and draft Ball. That's if we end up keeping our pick after the lottery. I know D'Angelo has the potential to be an excellent fit for the Walton system but he seems really inconsistent and unpredictable.
@rayrude57058 жыл бұрын
I also think that if Magic starts working with him and doesn't like what he sees then he's out for sure. I just can't see the Lakers keeping two young point guards. They already got clarkson as back up. I really feel that either Russell gets traded or that top 3 pick gets traded.

@jrlion158 жыл бұрын
Elisha Lewis bro, players came into the A weak offensively. He can develop a J in time. Defense is where it matters. AD was terrible at mid range.. in 2-3yrs developed a consistent J. His first yr he shot 29 percent than yr 3 went up to 45 percent on perimeter to use an ex. He'd be the smart choice for the lakers. Him & ingram with length amd perimeter D can give fits against opposing teams. We need two way players. I see him being that type of NBA player in 2-3yrs.
@lightshine1078 жыл бұрын
Seeing how mitch has drafted in the past, I doubt he will draft someone the media has considered the lakers pick. Not saying he does that because if this, but he's probably looking at another player. also he looks undersize. That isn't that much of a problem but in Lukes offense now we don't really use small guys. It's usually big guards that can ball handle i'd say trade the pick for a consistent shooting guard to take nick young spot. love the guy but the team needs to get serious

I doubt it. I've been skeptically about Ball for a couple weeks now, he can shoot the deep 3 ball but with him hardly taking any mid range shots, doesn't seem to like contact, and hardly drawing fouls (plus he's only shooting 67% from the free throw line) is alarming especially with his form. He's not a great defender either, right now he's just potential, to me, with his 6'6 size and 40 inch vertical.

London Ball is overrated. As a huge Laker fan I would be pissed if we didn't draft Fultz, Jackson, or Fox. Magic Johnson better not take Ball. I wish people would stop comparing Kidd and Ball. Jason Kidd when he was in college was a great defender and he knew how to run a half court offense. In the playoffs, the game slows down. Ball gets most of his passes in transition. Ball only scores in transition, off of long range step back 3 pointers, pull up 3's, and alley-oops. I'm not a D'Angelo Russell fan but Russell was way better than Ball coming out of college as a prospect
