You can buy syringes to feed baby birds at many pet stores. They don't have a needles so you don't have to worry about unforeseen accidents (like kids running out of the house to see what you're doing). Thank you for the video. I have one foglight that has condensation in it. I'm going to seal both of them tho.

It is a pain when you get water in the headlights. Thanks for sharing this video with us. It helps a lot.
@Minoltalphafan8 жыл бұрын
Most headlights have a vent or 2, but if the temp differential between the air inside and the air outside, moisture can/will still condense inside. It is almost always the seal between the clear cover and the housing that has some very small separation.

Awesome video, thanks. I know this wont seal the light but for a quick fix can you just take out the bulb and use a blow dryer to dry it out?
@rummy9810 жыл бұрын
He used painter caulk which is not 100% water tight. It has to have silicone in it if you want the seal to last. I would also recommend putting some heat to the glass for awhile (hair dryer) to get any remnant water vapor out of the light then quickly reconnect it. It would also be smart to do this on a day with low humidity.

I found my leak at the top of the housing by using air pressure and soapy water.White silicone for the top and black silicone for the black gasket area w/masking tape. The moisture was mostly on the parking light side,so I BURNED 2 small holes at the bottom with a torch and a paper clip.I used compressed air to dry out the housing.Don't try to drill it!

I have done this with HID lights also. The process is the same. Usually the ballast are sealed in their own housing and then screwed to the exterior of the headlight housing so you shouldn't have an issue with it.

I had a clogged up front indicator lens on my Nissan Sylphy. Took it off and used a hair dryer to clear all the water droplets out. Could have used compressed air but did the job easy. A used lens to buy here is $50. Had a small crack so sealed it used contact glue and did the trick.Clear silicone will also do the trick & most pharmacies will sell u a syringe? I use syringes for my printer refills

Thanks. I actually tried sealing one of them to compare - putting bead around plastic lens. It looks like it's done the job, compared to the other one. Now if I'd only used silicone that wasn't so old it will not dry. lol

I had leaky rear light al I did was get the smallest drill bit and drill 2 tiny little holes at the bottm of the light so air can get I then I sealed with black tape around the top edge of the light works great but after 3 yrs. I think I should place the black tape.

Just did this on my accord today and great video just wanted to add for some headlights dice as halo's after the headlights appeared clear the remains of water was then pooled to the bottom so unfortunately I had to drill a small hole in the back of the headlights then followed by silicone over the hole as well as around and crevices that water may enter but overall great video thanks

You can always pull the headlight, blow it completely dry and through one of the socket holes hook up a shop vac to pull a vacuum on the light. Clean the seam of the lense with alcohol. While light is under a vacuum apply silicone to seam, the vacuum will pull the silicone through the leak path and stop the leak. When the silicone stops pulling through the leak path you should be complete. Good luck!

I have a 2006 4 runner and both head lights are leaking. I'm thinking about trying this. Maybe even use this method. And tape off after and try a flex seal spray. And on the light bulbs they make a grease type for light bulbs to protect bulbs packing on exterior. Cause new headlights are expensive.

@rickquest63856 жыл бұрын
We need a follow up... It looks to me that you used a siliconized latex caulk and not pure silicone. My experience is when you use a water based silicone that the life expectancy won't be very long since water can effect it and keep it from curing. I know silicone can be VERY MESSY but would not ever fail. Thoughts? Is this still working for you? After how long??? Thank you.
@looccm066 жыл бұрын
Yup, If I had silicone at the time, I'd have used it but this was a spur of the moment thing and I decided to use what I had. It lasted for as long as I had the vehicle which was a couple years after I made the vid.

Did this work, permanently? My turn signal housing keeps getting condensation on inside, and it had actually filled up over time, to reach the bulb. It looks like the seals are fine, and only has openings for light sockets. I'm not sure if a seal will stop condensation (caused by temperature differences inside and out of light). Thought about drilling a vent, and/or a drain. Def. not spending $400 on new lights.

Cheap aftermarket headlights yeah, my headlight have permanent condensation in them i am going to actually split the clear plastic off the back part clean it perfectly, black out the inside (except reflector) and then re seal it the right way. Personally i would split the headlight because you can ultimately get a better seal when you assemble it.

It'll work fine for sealing the leak but I haven't seen any clear RTV (only orange, black or grey) so it probably won't look pretty:) I guess the grey would look alright. Also, I wouldn't think the high temp would matter for this purpose.

Not that they are greedy, maybe in a few cases, but in general as you noticed that everyone including corporations are going green. By going green they have to use materials that might not last as long as none Earth friendly materials. You will soon see random items fail much more prematurely then usual. A price that I personally am happy to pay if it means a few more years we can live on this planet.

Sorry if it seems that way! You'll need to remove the light like in this vid and pour out the majority of the water and then get the condensation out either with an air pencil like I used(avail. in the description) or leave it in the sun or a low humidity environment and then like in this vid put a bead of silicone around the seam. Basically the same as shown! good luck. I do have a taillight oxidation removal vid but it doesn't seem to many people are interested in the other lights.
