Posted on the Hayling Island Then and Now Fb group. The mine on the beach made safe by Charles Lawrence from HMS Vernon is on Hayling alongside the Red House (now Inn on the Beach). Thank you for uploading this.

Look for a TV show from the 70s called Danger UXB. Fabulous. Can be watched on Amazon Prime in some places.

The early scenes in this film show the Royal Engineers Bomb Disposal Unit at Broadbridge Heath, just outside Horsham, in West Sussex. This site now looks very different, having been redeveloped into a large Tesco and 'The Bridge' leisure centre. When I first moved to Broadbridge Heath there were the remains of what could have been a flag pole, or possibly barrier post, close to the Tesco entrance, which could have been a remnant of the older military site, but I think that even this has now been removed. As far as I can tell, most residents around here have little or no knowledge of the Bomb Disposal unit, which used to be based here. More old footage of the site can be seen here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYKnZmdnfqaph8k

At 8:12 this labourer (presumably an ex-prisoner of war) is still wearing a German army hat 17 years after the war ended!. He's also sporting an 'Adolf' style moustache which I wouldn't have thought was a good idea (if you don't want the p** taken out of you.)

And sixty years after this documentary was made, WW2 UXBs are still being found.
