I like the exploded view when showing the new power train. As a former ringpower technician and shop manger I would recommend making sis web parts work the same way. Click on the group it opens up. Click on the part and there is your part number. I wished sis web would be like that forever. It looks like cat now has the ability and the input. Help the techs working for the dealers and you will see a lot of happy techs.

We rented one of these on our last job, and I had the joy of operating it. I was skeptical about the torque when the blade really dug in, but I was really surprised. It knuckled down and pushed right thru hard pack with the ripper fully engaged and pushed a 13' pile of gravel as far as I wanted. And the cab is so nice. Very high tech. Smooth operation, quiet, and air conditioned. I'd buy one of these right now!

I remember Terex used to make dozers like the D7e, but without the electric drive, its got the single lift cylinder for the blade so since Cat bought over Bucyrus who bought Terex they would have access to the technology of previous machines and start from there!

I wonder if they could still implement the elevated drive sprocket on these guys.. and I'd love to see them making bigger dozers with this tech...
@txpipeliner074 жыл бұрын
We have 7 of them and they stay broken down more than they run. Most of ours are around 5000 hrs. Our mechanic can't fix the generators or the drive motor. That usually means that we have to haul them to cat and it takes about a month to fix. On top of all of that none of our operators want to run them they will beat you to death in rock and the blade control isn't operator friendly like cats other dozers. There is only one thing I like about them and thats the air conditioner. Hopefully we will get rid of them soon and upgrade to the new high track d7.

Exactly what we were wondering, every unit we see for sale has 3,4,5k hours no high hour machines out there hardly. When it breaks down your at the mercy of Cat and if your not their biggest customer, get in line buddy lol rather stick to R, T, or H models seems like.

It is breakthrough in the industry. It is the first electric drive dozer.

Its obsolete now, the new D 7 has gone back to Hi Drive and conventional transmission, was on show at Conexpo 2020, wonder why.
@jackG62213 жыл бұрын
why has the D7E gone back to the conventional track system,very interesting,time will tell if this dozer has the reliability,electronics seem to be a lot of the domntime on the newer models,where has cat been,Le Tourneau,Wabco,GE,have had this invention out since the 1940s,one blade ram,Terex done that,hybrid technology me ass,they have made electric powered dumptrucks,shovels,etc for years,cat has only just got on the band wagon,will this 7 be tuff enough,
@blakedigsdirt12 жыл бұрын
Letourneau pioneered electric drive systems and they have been around for decades, Terex's single lift cyclinder since the 1960's, and Deere's tilt cab. I did see the put their shitstem 1 undercarriage on it though...
@leewatkins16106 жыл бұрын
Letourneau used the electric idea In the 50s...amazing it took so long for cat to embrace it.maybe its because it is a bad idea.but maybe the early ones were poor because they were before their time because something was not yet in place..like metallurgy or some electric tech.Time will tell...economics may destroy it.or it may be the future.letourneau had electric steering also.this is now common .but early electric steering killed people.

As a diesel mechanic it's easy to see that they are just making things harder on everyone all this EPA crap is ridiculous anymore... Glad I live in Kentucky we don't keep up with that crap our law enforcement have cummins trucks that smoke ya out
@JTyler5214 жыл бұрын
@samfromportadown Not really, its very hard to make heavy duty equipment, 18 wheelers, earth movers, etc full electric, because although electric is cost efficient it doesn't create the amount of power the things need, or it could, but would drain itself pretty quickly. Most trains also do the diesel/electric because its powerful and cost efficient.

If they made an all electric version with no diesel engine, a big battery instead, and an additional high power motor to handle the hydraulic pump duties, you'd have a machine you could literally use to build the moon base.

There is nothing wrong with a diesel electric hybrid bulldozer. Locomotives have been using that system for years and they are some of the strongest ,machines on earth . While old systems may be simpler and easier to work. We need to preserve resources for future generations.

Good day Gentlemen" Lete see if I have this right" Initially the 4 cylinder D-7E by design was a Military engineered design with special high end features unlike the Industrial Commercial equipment: such as the torque & such: Listing to the video:vary impressive talk up with the cat; I actually like the seeing the Cat didn't get screwed up with a high track arrangement" In fact I had ponder how long it would take before cat would reproduce a new designed of D-7E: I could be wrong with this; you may or may not have anyone still on board from the early middle 60-s when I was cutting my teeth on Cat: I was getting broke in on the 2-U D-* & the-9" some had a wood floor deck: what a kick; TD 26 International was sort of still the machine, but had falling way behind when cat broke out with Hydraulics: The short of it: The D-7E I knew in side out back in the middle 60-s when it came to Vietnam: I was with the 27th Roman Plows: I know there are several around who had made all sorts of claims to fame with that" fine with me: I spent my years cashing that yellow Iron" iif was about moving dirt I worked on it" trained up on the 641 A cans: talk about a small dirt moving scraper: we had them" The 666 kept me going" I cashed it in; walked away, retired early on; age 50: in fact it's been even long now; Worked for some of the high rollers from back in the day moving dirt rock & what ever else was in the way so swing could come in & build: Don't screw it the D-7E; keeping the undercarriage is the way to go unlike the other high tracks: I run the 1960 models through all kinds of hell back in the day: although I ran over a many my self,one fellow in the lead plow tagged some thing 20 21 land minds & walked away every time: That old wish bone A_Farm open V bottom out was saved our lives: directing the explosion out the sides away not directly up: The rang tarns is what made up for the rest: It was a sit to see the floor plates puffed up" although those rubber hose's didn't cut it: for the blade: it was in your face: Some times as long as the an RPG didn't hit in such a way a person was about half OK to come out of it with nothing or some thing but still alive to tell about it: that was about the only thing that could do more damage then the land minds on a D-7E we ran them so hard every day the turbos all but melted down\; they glowed like moving water they were so over heated; & that was during day light: I seen those 4 bangers run all day on near no water: day in & day out: the heads leaking oil & water coolers blistering hot; so hot it was impossible to touch them: Blistering hot" water oil bellowing out the exhaust: The exhaust at times for some were blowing flames of fire, it be like that off & on all day" fires break out in the pans: Oil soaked brush burn that Little cat to near death: the next day fire it up as long as the lines were still on it & put it back to work: We did have a few of them where the farm / body it self had been torn in two / split by a mind: a few tracks Obliterated, basically at the point of impact: other wise we shook it off: set up & kept right on moving ahead: all those who could: So don't mess it up people: it was tougher then most army tanks rolling over land minds even anti tank minds it did vary well with'; but no" you weren't likely to be walking to far after that: that was it's limit: That little D-7E was a war horse" everyone wanted them; the infantry wanted them / us to run point with the Roman Plow: easy to reason why: The D-7E was all about sparing lives like no other machine: Yet we sat upright in a wire stretch metal cage; make shift blast shield on the floor: an up right plate of steal weld to the floor entry way on both sides: sort of worked; at lest one felt better: we had welded who made all of the belly pans rather plated them to help protect us from the land minds they did a great job; You never hear about those guys working all night to put us back in the seat the next day: I seen that goofy looking iron works type cage for an old plow in display: In Nam or any other blistering hot place you be dead in a couple of hours it be so hot in that thing: The later teams who cam in some had water tanks mounted to the top of there cabs for water cooling them down & the cat: Most of us were just kids at the time: crazy days; Don't screw it up: the only real test; run it over a land mind a few times; the only passing of that test is it till in running condition No other test required oh yeah" the cab still needs to be in tack with no fly metal tearing around it inside by the operator: think that nuts: may be so; but there were a few hundred who lived it in real time:
