These are all wonderful ideas. I practice many of the suggested things, I'm 75, but despite long distance swimming, yoga a healthy diet etcetera I'm still plagued with osteoarthritis in so many places in my body. It's effecting my ability to walk normally. And I have peripheral neuropathy to add to it. I"m not sure about wanting to live many more years if my mobility is to keep declining. Once the quality of life reaches a point, then one must decide if all these techniques really matter anymore.

I was an avid outdoorsman, belonged to a hiking club, biked, canoed, ballroom dancer. I was extremely active and social. I developed peripheral neuropathy in both feet and lower legs. It bothers me so much just to wear shoes. So I quit hiking and bike riding and lost most of my muscle mass. I had to quit dancing and as a result lost many friends and social life. I cannot walk normally, people must think I've had a few drinks. Being checked now for colon cancer and not sure if I want to go through the attempted cure if I have it. I'm 75. All I need now it to lose my drivers license and then I'll just exist as a recluse, never leaving the house.

The number one thing---you must have a purpose in your life. What is the reason you get up in the morning? What do you want to accomplish? Not just today but down the road. What is your passion?
@marc-andrejobin73767 күн бұрын
I agree with what you're saying about having purpose in one's life. I've been working for 55 years, going on 56 and 44 years as a nurse and I get to meet people of all ages. Just yesterday, one of my patient who has a few health challenges still works 7 days a week at age 85. Over the years, the people who age well despite having some health challenge are the ones who keep active regardless of aching bones. Keeping active with a purpose promotes longevity to the difference of retiring and sitting on a couch being fed mind poison with listening to stupid television.

I like the metaphor of the eskimos putting their parents on an ice floe and pushing them out to sea when they were no longer useful or contributing to their society. Our modern equivalent is the retirement home. Be happy, healthy, have a goal and contribute to society and stay out of that home (ice floe)

It's the modern equivalent indeed, sad but true..
