I live in Toluca Lake but unless your house backs up to the water you can't access the lake!!!!

It’s so sad. They erased thousands of years of history to do what could have been done with a manmade lake. The whole bottom of the lake is paved in asphalt to prevent erosion- so it’s no longer the spring-fed body of life it once was. The bones of colonization. So very sad.

I also live there and it is true unless you are on the lake or are a member of lakeside country club the lake in inaccessible. Also the streets are way too narrow for 2 way traffic with cars parked on both sides.

Now thieves will know where to go, and I doubt that Toluca is a Paiute word since Toluca Mexico came first and that's a Nahuatl word.

you’re right, Toluca is probably not a Paiute word. Pio Pico, Mexican governor of California before it was relinquished to the US, sold south SGV to James Lankershim. James Lankershim’s son James II chose the word Toluca because there had supposedly been a Tongva village by that name there in the past, but there’s no record of that. It could have been a word he misheard as Toluca. Hope we one day find the written history to confirm what the village was named before Spanish colonization.
