The former presidential candidate of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Abel Martínez, said that with the recent reelection of Eduardo Hidalgo as president of the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP), a new stage of leadership has begun that must focus on solving the great challenges facing education in the Dominican Republic.
The senior political leader said that “Hidalgo's permanence at the head of the teachers' union has been characterized by his efforts to strengthen the voice of teachers and fight for quality education for all.”
Martínez pointed out, however, that the Dominican educational system continues to face serious problems that limit access and quality of education for thousands of children.
“The saturation in classrooms, largely caused by uncontrolled immigration pressure, has left many Dominican students without space in schools, while resources are allocated to accommodate undocumented foreigners. This situation not only affects educational infrastructure, but also the quality of learning and the possibility of equitable development in the country.”
