@@arianaxo2905 Agree with you. And, as a matter of fact, not necessary. Save up some money for a few, good clothing pieces that will last you for years to come, and now and then, if you have some money left, you can add another piece to your wardrobe. I started with saving up my pocket money, now my wardrobe is complete. Some pieces are about 25 years old, still in perfect condition. My blazer needed a new lining, so I brought it to a tailor. Haven't bought anything for about three years, just didn't find anything nice I wanted to add. (And I prefer classic pieces, so nothing really goes out of style 😉.)

Thalia another option is buying consignment designer clothes!
@thalia7104
@thalia7104 4 жыл бұрын
@@lizzyt1248 Yes, that's another option! I think by now, we know what fast fashion does to the environment and the workers, it's a waste of money and very often - waste! And so many people say, I can't afford expensive items. True, not everyone can go to Dior and buy the latest Ready-to-Wear, neither can I. But buying less items, therefore good quality, will save you money in the end, because it holds up much, much longer, and you don't give the greedy companies who don't have good working conditions, pay much too less to their workers, even have child labour, your hard earned money, just to throw the items in the bin after a few times washing them. Preloved route is good, building up a wardrobe slowly, just add one good piece, when you have saved up some money. It is possible.

@@thalia7104 just wondering but as far as I know designer clothing from names like Louis Vuitton, Chanel etc is not necessarily made under better working conditions or more sustainable material. The upside is the longer lasting aspect of those clothes but not the process of fabrication, as far as I know. Would that be true?

Hi there, I go shopping at thrift shops because where I live it's impossible to find good quality stores mostly fast fashion shops here. I've found a lot of good quality clothes from Veronika Maine, Mark & Spence and others for less than K10 (US$2.50). I think what matters is finding good quality like fabrics, colors nor washed out, buttons and stitches still on, etc. Best wishes and know that elegance is a mindset.

Clothing is a "first impression" thing. It will attract men, but then you need to show your inner elegance to keep them. You also need to know how to dress appropriately for the occasion. It's ok to wear humble clothing in regular life, but if your wealthy boyfriend asks you to go along on a conference weekend at a posh resort, you need clothing that shows you know how to play the social game at the right level.

Elegance belongs to everyone, not only the wealthy class. We don't need to try to "look wealthy" in order to adopt elegance. As someone else said, elegance is found not only in style but also, in definition, from grace within. I think something needs to be said about the portrayal of "what is elegant." The creator encourages the idea that a person's level of elegance corresponds with their displays of subtle wealth, showcasing constantly in every video how to display an expensive lifestyle. Consciously or subconsciously, the women suggests every time that the value and worth of a person corresponds to their display of elegance. I'm going to take a deeper dive and mention the wage gap in America and how it directly correlates to race. Poverty is systematic, and its proof is in the existence of Affirmative Action. Affirmative action is a college admission's preference for minorities over traditional students to break the cycle of poverty for those who are systematically suppressed. Having said this, this constant idea that a display of wealth = elegance sets boundaries for who can be considered "elegant" in society. Those of lower socioeconomic status are often considered "not elegant" due to their lifestyle and poverty. According to the women, elegance seems to be correlated with worth. If we correlate elegance with worth, that would insinuate a worthlessness of these minorities and create almost a "sub human" category for them. This just fuels the fire for negative stereotypes of minorities and other suppressed races (Native Americans, African Americans, Latinos). I think that is why there is something inherently unfair and disgusting about these videos. Minority races in poverty do not have the option for true elegance under her definition. I believe we need to look at the definition for elegance again and ensure that this women does not take away from its true definition with her personal expressions that has only exacerbated negative stereotypes. Of course, people enjoy her videos and kudos for her to making videos that people enjoy. I guess just take what you can and leave everything else. Just something that I haven't seen mentioned.

My mom was a fashion designer and she always pointed out things, as you have. So true. The darts (sewn seams from breast to waist) in front of a blazer offers the hourglass (and slimming) look, rather than the boxy cut (which flatters absolutely no one). Buttons really are critical. You can swap them out (like handles on a dresser) and instantly make a blazer look better. And pattern continuation (like a stripe matching the stripe past a seam) are a solid sign of quality. You have good taste and an excellent shape. Thank you for pointing out faux pas. You can absolutely dress well on a budget, if you pay attention to such tips. Just one thing...I find blond women in black turtlenecks, coats etc look fabulous. They are positively striking. But, I understand your preference for lighter colours. Thanks for the video. Please keep making such videos.

Yes, I wish she had said to buy nicer buttons and swap them out on the yellow double breasted jacket at 3:57. She’s talking about a lot of things that most “fashion bloggers” don’t bother with-and that are important for looking expensive (put together), and more importantly, sustainability.

@@samanthapadgett292 your best place is to go the stores where tailors buy accessories, you know, those ones who sell laces, buttons, zippers, etc. They have a HUGE variety of buttons, and they come in various shapes, colors, and quality

Also, current trends that we can borrow from and still look elegant. This I think would go well with the format you presented here 😍

Loved this! It really shows how to not get caught up in the thrill of shopping, rather be excited but with a discerning eye… plus you are hilarious when describing the nos. 🤣Maybe if we all stop buying that crap, they will quit making it! 😉

I enjoyed how you pointed out structure and stitching that makes a piece look more expensive. I'd love to see you shop in a thrift shop, maybe we can try to find vintage, classic designer pieces. I appreciate all of your videos. They provide us with a lot of value.

My mother language is German. It’s a difficult language but tbh not really elegant. For a lot of people it can sound a little bit aggressive. Maybe Spanish French or Italien?

If you are going to travel widely, Spanish and French. If you want to study literature and understand the basis of many languages, maybe Latin.
