Foreign Object Damage (FOD) poses a danger to aircraft and their passengers so responsible airport management usually involves checking runways for objects that could pose a risk. That's all I'm saying.

Wow the driving school does not do a F.O.B. walk when they are done. That's very rude.

Does the city own a street sweeper? Should be practice to have it on the runway after every event along with FOD walk, then factor the cost onto the city in the event permits.

If it's anything like US street sweeper vehicles they will get a about half of what's on the surface.

I'd bet from my 6 months experience with NZ that this bit comes from a '90s vintage run down Mitsubishi Legnum with flat tyres and crumpled bumpers.

A few passes with a Street Sweeper would work great on the runway,if you all have them..Of course getting the "council" to agree may be harder than 1 person with a straw broom...lol

So... drones are evil and dangerous but it is fine for cars to drive up and down runways and leave crap all over the place that an puncture aircraft tyres? Am I missing something here?

Bruce - Seems pretty smart to allow other non-aviation-related activities/events at your mostly idle Tokoroa airfield. Anything that can help keep NZTO from being closed by your 'wonderful' local city counsel of synapse-misfiring misfits is a plus. 😁
@xjet
@xjet 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think there should be more non-aviation use of the facility. They really do need to *manage* the facility though -- at the moment it's left to run itself which results in all sorts of safety issues and an inability to reliably book it for an event. I booked the airfield THREE times last summer and on every occasion was unable to use the booking because the council stuffed something up. Just as well I wasn't trying to organise an international event eh? ;-)

'Parently the Russians don't do FOD walks on their airfields like NATO, they just build their aircraft to shrug of the odd house brick on the runway, 'cause it's probably gonna get bombed. (which tends to make them untidy anyway).

Your spring is on its way. Our colors are already changing. It's cold here today. Since we are farther North , we tend to see fall soon. It's always windy here. It drives me nuts. I try a bbq d fly on less windy days. My UMX and micro planes are grounded pretty much.

A bit narcissistic at the end, Bruce! The debris on the runway is sloppy and careless of the drivers. They need educating, because a puncture is potentially disastrous for any vehicle, but much more so for an aircraft, which moves in three dimensions, not two.
