You are right boss. Smallcreeps is a fantastic LP. No real surprise coming from Mike who always contributes a high level approach to music. But you can't get this music out of your head. The vignettes, transitions, the variety. So good. And the drumming singing, Mike's playing- just superb. Anyway, I agree w/you. I am convinced tnat the GENESIS thing, and I mean all key players tied to it, will be held in much higher esteem as the years go on. The cream will rise to the top and the Genesis experience is so full of top shelf compositions and playing.

Anthony Phillips, like Tony Banks, is immaculate with the way he structures voicing, and that influence is patently obvious in this album versus "Acting Very Strange" or any Mike + The Mechanics album - Especially on "Romani" and "Between The Tick And The Tock".

The 2 great incredible albums are _Smallcreeps Day_ by Mike and _A Curious Feeling_ by Tony Banks- both their 1st and greatest solo albums, and from a similar time period. The keyboards are incredible on Smallcreep- it's a keyboard heavy album- which is great!

It's actually not THAT keyboard heavy. A lot of the "keyboard" sounds are actually guitars. Many of the dense chords are guitars and not keyboards. Cheers, Alan Tomlinson

John! Major thanks for bringing your love of this album to the masses. I am totally with you on how gorgeous and dense and melodic this album is. And great idea getting interviews with all the players on the album. And what an all star lineup. First of all, I think it's amazing that Ant did all the keys when he is known at a guitarist extraordinaire! I wonder if he ever got to play keys with genesis back in the day. He is so good at it and has great taste and choices. Noel McCalla I actually knew because of my love for Trevor Rabin (Rabin produced a lot of McCalla music back in the day). And Simon of Toto!!! I was just listening to Simon's work on a recent Nik kershaw album. Oh so good. One of the best drummers still with us and still drumming. This album is begging for a 5.1 remaster from Nick Davis and Cherry Red Records/Esoteric. What has to happen to make this happen? Where can I start fundraising? Kickstarter maybe? If Mike won't do it for himself, do it for Noel, Ant, Simon and you!!! And me! And the legions of Genesis /Rutherford fans. Let's make this happen. In the meantime keep bringing attention to this glorious work!

I've been screaming for a remaster for years on these pages and on Facebook, even appealing to Nick Davis, but to no avail. Mike Rutherford continues to back away from his best piece of work, but apparently he doesn't see it as such.

Beautiful album. I'm still shocked at it's lack of success, maybe one day. What the hell is the matter with people? Even ardent Genesis fans don't know about it. Tony's lack of success as a solo artist is also a disgrace.

Some of the spacy keyboard links in Smallcreep’s Day are so texturally thick with Ant’s genius, that it’s hard to imagine what Mike originally ‘wrote’ for those pieces..

One of my favorite albums of all time, truly. I bought it right when it came out and have adored it ever since. Hearing Mike and Ant together is heavenly. Great songwriting throughout and an absolutely top-notch performance by Simon Phillips, as well as all of the other performers. This will be forever in my top 20 albums of all time. Wouldn't it have been great if Smallcreep's Day had been a big hit? We might have gotten more releases like this. Unfortunately SD bombed, leading the way to "Acting Very Strange" and then to (even worse) Mike + the Mechanics. Smallcreep's Day is a special journey that should be traveled by anyone who has an interest in Progressive rock (or progressive pop). Peace!

One of my favorites as well. My only issue with the record (I bought the vinyl when it came out) was that side 1 really should have been side 2. I prefer having the Smallcreep Suite end the record, with the emotional "End of the Day," rather than "Overnight Job." As many of us did, I recorded the record onto cassette, which I could play in my car stereo, so it was easy to start with side 2. I still listen to it that way.

100 % agree with you about Small Creep's Day. Nor Tony Banks, Phil Collins or even Steve Hackett, the most faithfull to the old Genesis sound, were able to emulate Genesis music that well. It's not only a fantastic album, but one of the best Genesis albums in my opinion. Sad and shame thing is that Mike despises it, as he does with all the old stuff : "not that good, didn't sell well, blah blah blah... " what a pity !

Best music. A perfect companion to Wind and Wuthering. But, and it's a big one (or two)....Awful album title and appalling cover art which definitely hindered the lp going anywhere. Plus hardly any effective advertising ensured this masterpiece was D.O.A. Great pity. For any lovers of Seconds Out, this is a winner.
