Great job Charlie. My old man lives in a cabin on Lake Francis in Clarksville, NH . He tells me stories all the time of stonewalls that go on for miles . Also a wagon wheel that a tree has grown through and lifted in the air. These videos really inspire me to see what I can find using the resources available to me . Keep up the great work 👍 S.D.N - LIVE FREE OR DIE

Great narrative! I'm always looking at the surrounding landscape as I drive through VT, NH, & ME. You can see the old logging roads, and certainly the old railroad right of ways. Beautiful old slabs of granite. I totally understand what is so interesting. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Charlie, I found your site looking through "metal detecting". I watched this episode hoping you'd find that mine. Amazed at the HUGE slabs of granite littered across the landscape. Even at that elevation there were farms and stone walls built. Awestruck...The fortitude and perseverance it took to move and stack those stones, clear trees for a homestead and/or barn let alone providing for oneself or even a family back then. It was neat to see the paths our forefathers created to travel. Really enjoyed the journey with you. Good hunting!

@@NotThursday hi glade see your in the woods I'm from NH I've gold panned Alot in the past years ago and I had a map made of all the mines in NH the original copies in the library I made a map we did find one mine in Maine that wasn't on the map it was a gold mine the map I'm talking about classified every mine back in 1800s I don't want to plaster it on Facebook give me a shout and I'll tell you on the phone which Library the mine in Maine was pretty cool way up tin Mountain but will pain in the river never went back good luck

Have you ever thought about wearing a yellow pair of glasses when you're out there looking for things.... I can remember back in the day when I started wearing Yellow glasses when I was out in the woods it made everything so much clearer and I could see further and through the trees better... Especially with snow on the ground .... I must say kiddo I really enjoyed this half hour video you sure covered a lot of ground... Those rock formations were awesome on that side of the mountain how jagged they were and they look just tossed around by nature it's really neat... Someday when I'm physically able to travel again I'd like to jump on my Can-Am Spyder and head up your way it sure looks like pretty country... For many years I've rode across this great country of ours but I've never been up the northeastern part.... I'm not as young as I once was but I'm not as old as I'm going to be. So as soon as God works a miracle fixing me up I'm going to be back out on the road again I got many of Miles to cover yet with my knees in the breeze... Thanks again for another great video 👍👍... So with lots of love and many prayers be blessed kiddo... BBE 👍 👍🤗 🤗

It’s interesting how well you can see details of old cart paths, tracks, cellars and hopefully for DC, old cave entrance. When the first 1” of snow falls or the last 2” are melting, the snow super highlites high and low spots! Good luck tracking that entrance- may the force be with you.
@paulthomas23373 жыл бұрын
Very possible the actual mine was a big rock quarry which you found split rocks which were hauled out on those carts to use for making buildings in the local townships. Quarries are often called mines too!
@ericpouliot36663 жыл бұрын
if you follow the trail to the open ledge face with the view you just keep going around to the other side of the ledge at the point. There on the top of the mtn on the hillside where it is wooded you will find the mine. Its easier if you climb up from Madam Sherri Forrest and past Indian pond versus coming up from Wantastiquet mtn.

Minerals found on that mountain in Chesterfield were basically azurite, malachite, and chalcopyrite which are copper-bearing minerals. The cost if processing the ore was prohibitive although with the current price of copper, today it might be profitable.

Still catching up on the videos, I think you were right, that would be the tailings pile. And it would have provided the space to turn the oxen team around. Good location for loading up the ore. I'd try finding out more about the smelting operation. They would have kept a more detailed observation of the mine. They were recording the amount of recovery per ton. Just another clue to try to follow up on. Best of luck finding this one.

I used to walk the woods looking for civil war camps there were no maps of where they were! I got so I could tell where the would probably be! The hardest ones to find would usually have more relics and were worth the hike! Love the new channel great idea!

Is the ground over the edge real rough from possible waste material being pushed or thrown over the edge ? Which would allow access to whatever they might have been digging out making that plateau area .
@davidl20784 жыл бұрын
I was thinking quarry, that split granite has the signature. These people were meticulous so if it was recorded that they finished the job, there would be little left behind unlike the abandoned quarry I found in MA. Where there was tales of precious metal so they left discarded hearthstone pieces everywhere.

At times the opening may be small just large enough for a man to walk with a wheelbarrow or small cart. Add to that the natural sluff that comes down from weather it may only be a small or closed opening now. The waste rock would have been used to improve the way out of the area

You said you couldn't find the mine? But I think the piles of rocks that you walking by and did not give any thought to. It could be a possibility that under one of those piles of rocks could be the entrance to the mine. You may have to deploy a strategy to pin point the piles of rocks were an entrench could be. You may find it. I know you have done research that can help now go out there and find it.
@ericpouliot36663 жыл бұрын
its not anywhere the granite rock piles at the bottom of the ledge. Its at the very top of the mtn (mine Mtn). probably 100 feet east from the mine ledge.

The plateau was the waste rock. The mine is located in the immediate area. And they may not have tunneled they could have sheared off the rock face until they pinched what ever material it was out to make it not worth continuing.
@briantheminer4 жыл бұрын
Running in the opposite direction to your hi-tech detecting, have you ever tried “dowsing” with rods, that plateau area for instance, easy to do. I’ve only done it a few times, but to my colleagues amazement, located the 2 tunnel entrances to an illusive mine we were looking for
