Right on. Getting to start hiking into the backcountry real soon. I lot of the Eastern Sierra content I have across my channel playlists is somewhat in range of you when you are visiting the state line area depending on how much time you have. I'm preparing to head down that way to create more content as we speak! Thanks for tuning in and I am glad you enjoy my content. Much more coming.

Amani, your crazy hard work, enthusiasm and fishing skills are so inspiring. I am 68 years old. Thanks to you, My son and I hiked in to Winnemucca Lake on June 1st. Our first ever hike-in. The lake was about 80% clear with lots of ice sheets moving slowly along the shore. No takers on bait, but I was able to land two absolutely beautiful brookies casting an 1/8 oz Lost Creek jig head with a 2 inch smelt pattern Berkley minnow into what clear water I could find. Thank you so much for your hiking and fishing videos. Please take the time to let your elbow heal completely. We really love following your adventures.

That place was a little sketchy but the points with deep water that I usually fish are flooded out just enough that it looked like if I made the struggle to get out there I wouldn't have anywhere to set up and fish. When the water drops a little in the fall it should be more manageable. Went to the spot at Logan Shoals where I got skunked the week before and fished for my Patreon the next day. I hit a nice rainbow. That area is way easier to fish!

Nice to see you out and bait fishing while you give the arm a break to heal. I love eating those big rainbows. Do you have a video showing your technique for filleting the trout? Do you get manny bones? I have been cooking them whole and the meat flakes off and very rarely I get a bone when eating them.
@wildernesswithamani1027
@wildernesswithamani1027 2 жыл бұрын
I rarely get bones. There are tons of videos on You tube for fileting fish I'm sure. Have a really sharp knife and make sure it's a longer one for those big trout. I like to filet them because once the fish reach a certain size cooking it all the way through becomes a hassle. I'm always battling raw meat along the spine! Filets cook quick and even. I'll be having the second half of this fish tonight!

I wonder if trolling or drifting with a kayak along those shorelines would be effective . I would think so with the success you have seen fishing from shore .
@wildernesswithamani1027
@wildernesswithamani1027 2 жыл бұрын
If I had a kayak I would like to try drifting a small ball of powerbait at about 20 feet along some of the deep sections with boulders. I'd use a slip sinker with a 5 foot leader so I could probe different depths. I would also try shallow with a split shot. Crickets, grasshoppers, redworms, nightcrawlers all would be on the menu if they were available. Trolling a cast master or spoon behind you would probably work too. I've seen a lot of fish cruising the boulders close to shore. My concern would be the shadow of the kayak spooking trout in the shallower areas. Of course, I just spit out a lot of theory having never been out on anything floating while fishing Lake Tahoe!

Right on. I went back to Logan Shoals the next day for my Patreon and hit a nice rainbow. I was fishing near boulders only around a 17 count from the time my 1/2 O/Z sinker hit the water until the bottom. Basically, I went back there to the same spot I got skunked the week before to try to right that ship! I want to start hiking into lakes myself. I'm going to drive down to the Eastern Sierra next week to see what is up with the trails above 10K. Good luck when you go.

Barbara Eden baby! Amani, I hope you always make a float plan or trip plan and leave it with a responsible person. If you jacked up a leg way down in those boulders, that trip plan could save you. I was a boat operator for the state of ca and it was required for me. Just a good safety procedure when you are always alone way out some wheres. Tight lines.

My phone works there so I don't worry that much about it and people are always walking by on the trail within shouting distance. When I am in remote areas where none of that is the case, I write an email telling search and rescue where I will likely be found and if my Brother doesn't hear from me by a certain date and time he is supposed to forward that to the sheriff for that jurisdiction. I give them the trailhead where my car would be, what lakes I plan to fish, etc. I have a clip for this on my outdoor safety playlist titled "Make sure you can be found"!

Amani, I've caught few trout of that size from NV side as well. Not sure, maybe it's me, but I feel that size trout from Tahoe isn't as tasteful as other trout on rivers. The much bigger trout from Lake Tahoe, which it's meat is super red are very tasty though.
@wildernesswithamani1027
@wildernesswithamani1027 2 жыл бұрын
I love the meat of the rainbows I get above 16"-17". I have a few videos from Tahoe on my 'lakes and reservoirs' playlist where I show the filets from trout in the 20"+ class and the meat is always dark reddish/pink. I guess it's a personal preference thing. It's fine for me. I don't keep fish in rivers any longer to help keep the quality of trout in them high. Again, just my personal preference.

Bro you are the man!!! Even with hurt arm you are producing. Congrats on a quick hookup, always nice after a good hike. I was inspired by your videos and went to Tahoe back in February. Ended up fishing sand harbor and cave rock as all there were so many signs that said no parking. I don’t know they area well so I don’t know where you can or not park. I don’t mind the king hikes, I just want to respect the locals & law authority. Do you have any info on your playlist on possible parking? Thought I’d ask as I would eventually love to land my first Tahoe fish. It’s a couple hr drive for me but the scenery is well worth it. Thanks again for the awesome videos 🙏👍🏾🎣
@wildernesswithamani1027
@wildernesswithamani1027 2 жыл бұрын
February can be tough. If the snow isn't bad on the roads there are turnouts on the hill above Sand Harbor that are made for parking. Problem is, if there is snow and ice on the steep hill down I wouldn't do it. You can start sliding and never stop. Logan Shoals is a good spot but again, it depends on what the trail down looks like. I have that clip where I hit two big rainbows off the rocks at the end of the beach at Sand Harbor inside of a half hour. How I play it. I don't park in turnouts that aren't huge while it's snowing and snow removal equipment is operating. There is a real easy cold weather spot to fish off the 89 on the California side but it is real hard to secure your rod in the large pebble beach. I have a couple clips for that spot on my lakes and reservoirs playlist. It is my understanding that either State License is valid on the lake but I would encourage you to confirm that before you head out. I have a license for both so I don't worry about it. It's in the special regulation section of the Nevada reg guide and it's in the "licensing" section of the California reg guide. You would need the 2nd rod designation to use two rods in California like I do. With that said, all of the spots I fish in Tahoe clips on my 'lakes and reservoirs' playlist in both States should be good to go in some way, shape, or form. Hope that helps.

Hey Amani, I was wondering on a day of fishing the boulders, how many times do the rocks keep your rigs. Every time I try near chimney the lake eats my lead. I have had a lot of luck at logans before July 4 but now it seems a bit too busy, I even drop my lines in by 5am
@wildernesswithamani1027
@wildernesswithamani1027 2 жыл бұрын
I don't get snagged a lot. If I am reeling in, I hold my rod over my head and start reeling as fast as I can from the start. No pulling it a little, no testing the bottom, just full speed reeling with the highest rod tip possible from the word go! I might try a July run and seek out deep water to see if it's any good. I mostly like to fish this lake when it's cold.

I went there the last week of may and it was pretty full. Sounds like it came up more. Last trip I got the smallest trout in the 3 or 4 times I was out there filming content but it was fun. A lot of the reservoirs I've been fishing lately are way up. Beardsley, icehouse, a lot of full lakes. I have clips for all of it on my 'lakes and reservoirs playlist if you haven't seen them are interested.

Based on the listing for Lake Tahoe in the special regulation section in the fish and Wildlife regulation guides for Nevada and California that simply isn't the case. Lake Tahoe Tributaries up to the first lake in California are artificial /barbless with a short season but other than that I am not sure what you are referencing.
