Q. Why isn’t ‘Off to the Vet’ available in full on KZbin?
A. ‘Off to the Vet’ film production and crowdfunding campaign was a huge undertaking for the Simon’s Cat Team. Our hope is to produce more long form, full colour content for our fans but without having to turn to them through crowdfunding again. The film was completed in 2015 and submitted it to a selection of international film festivals over the following months. During this time it was exclusively available to all funders that contributed via our private production blog. The feedback we have received from our funders has been overwhelming positive and we hope they are extremely proud of making the film a possibility. Q. What software do you use?
A. Simon's Cat is made using Adobe Flash / TV Paint animation software.
Q. Why does it take so long to make each Simon's Cat film?
A. Even though the films are made on computer software, they are still hand-animated in a traditional manner, frame to frame. It usually takes between 12 and 25 drawings to create 1 second of a Simon's Cat film.

What I love with these is that I can identify them with my own cats. One night my father found a tiny kitten had been thrust in the hedge. He was five weeks old, and his eyes were glued shut with cat flu. He was rushed into the vet. We named him Thomas. The next night we found his sister on the hedge. The third night I heard a kitten mewling outside but we couldn't find it. The poor little girl had chronic ill health she had to be put on valium and eventually she had to be put to sleep because she paralyzed her back and rear end. We were all crying because we loved and cared for her so dearly. But her brother was an energetic little cat who loved pouncing on his little sister. So my father went to the local cat shelter and adopted another little girl who needed vet care because of a serious dose of gastroenteritis. She came home, a two month old baby with serious diarrhea. So Thomas saw this little baby, and thought 'I can push her around'. We would hear a squeal, shout "Thomas, leave her alone she is a baby" and rush to see Thomas being thrown onto his back and this little baby scragging hell out of him. After two days Thomas was hiding and running from little Cindy. That is what the third cartoon reminded me of.

They bring such joy and fun. When we had to have baby Sian put to sleep because her back end was paralysed, my father openly cried. Something we had never seen him do before, not even for his mother because when he grew up the culture was men don't cry. We allowed Sian to get away with blue murder because she was so ill and so loving. When we had fish and chips from the chippy, Sian would jump into my mother's chip bag because she loved fish. We fed her freshly cooked steak because she refused to eat cat food. We cut it up into small pieces microwaved it and she ate it hot. So when Sian passed on, we thought that the best thing we could do for her was to adopt another cat in need of love and a home.
