Thanks for an enjoyable video. I grew up in New Westminster, about 135 km west of Hope, but spent my childhood summers in Kelowna, 239 km to the north-east. This required driving through Hope, where we sometimes stayed the night. My mother would tell me about how she would travel from Kelowna to the coast. First by stern wheeler on Okanagan Lake, then by train, along the Kettle Valley Railroad. It was almost like something out of the wild west. In fact it was. My grandfather was a cattle buyer, who rode a horse, and was armed. Naturally, I was always aware that Rambo was made in Hope, over forty years ago. By that time I had moved to Norway. There, our closest neighbour had a brother living in Hope, and we went there yet again to visit him, and other friends who had fled Greater Vancouver. Despite living more than half my life in Norway, I regard myself as a Cascadian, sometimes referred to as an Ecotopian. I may have been influenced by Rambo, because I always regard Hope as being on the border, placing it as the first outpost in the Empty Quarter, as described in Joel Garreau's The Nine Nations of North America (1981), or a northern extension to the Neutral Zone in Philik K. Dick's novel, The Man in the High Castle (1962), or the Rocky Mountain States as it is called in the television series of the same name.

@@SpaceCattttt ... and what do you think of British Columbia as a name? The Stó:lō lived in the Fraser Valley, including Hope, for at least 8,000 years. They were also the most numerous people well after smallpox, introduced by Europeans, killed 2/3 of them in 1782. Much of the area was referred to as Columbia District from about 1810, although some people referred to it as Oregon Country. That continued until the Oregon Treaty of 1846. The Colony of British Columbia was created in 1858. It became part of Canada in 1871, thirteen years later. Of course, one also has to remember that the Canadian authorities interred Canadians of Japanese ancestry near Hope during World War II. Some of them descendents of Japanese people who had lived in Vancouver since 1860! I find the racism of British Columbia disturbing.

Everyone has their own nostalgic memory of this film. I don’t remember exactly when I saw it for the first time. However, I do recall the movie review on TV in the evening. That was during the Easter holidays in 1983. The weather that day was rainy and cold, just like in the film. I really wanted to watch the movie, but I was still too young at the time. I eventually watched it on VHS, sometime between 1984 and 1986. By the end of 1986, I was already playing Rambo II on the C64. By then, I had seen both films. “First Blood” is still worth watching.

Just to add to your commentary about the bridge, just in case you weren't aware, the crossing we remember in the movie was just to the left of the new one as your heading out of town, and of you look on the east bank of the river, you can still see the footings...that's all that's left. In no way can the new bridge really be associated with Rambo and the legacy of the film, IMHO. Great video, I like Hope and enjoy stopping by and revisiting some of the locations, fortunately the town hasn't changed that drastically in 40 years.

yeah, I saw the movie in 1982 in the cinema. I had just turned 16 and all the big action movies of that year were 16+. Maybe even the movie town of Hope would have made a hero out of Rambo in the sequel and benefited from his popularity :)

The journey began over forty years ago when I was standing in front of the cinema and unfortunately wasn't allowed in because of the age rating 😝 and is still going 😂 - Rambo was influential - thanks for the impressions 👏 and many greetings from Frankfurt Germany - Tommy 😊

This was my favorite out of all of them, the bridge had that nostalgic feel to it, i Remember when this came out in 1981 i was 17, i am 56 now and the talk of the town was the RAMBO bowie knife, it had a fishing kit in it ,waterproof matches a compass , suture kit, it was a bada$$ knife, but it wasn't practical . You can go to the auctions outside being sold by people, the thing was huge. It was great to see the locations now and what they look like side by side, you did a great job enjoyed this immensely. Now my favorite movie i am going to look at is the>> DEER HUNTER

Thanks for watching. I still wish that original bridge was there!

@@Nostalgia_trips Ya me 2 it made the ambience of the hole movie, i think there going to put pictures of it up by the Bridge somewhere. Was that sportshop there when he goes in breaks the cans of gun powder up or was that made just for the movie. Sylvester is a aging older man now, we need to preserve these things ,of what life was like before social media , cell phones, and the internet, before this world took a severe turn for the worst.
