Hey there 2017, in 2024, 7 years have gone by and you should really check out The Black Parade, a fan made mod game that is ridiculously good so good in fact, it got the seal of approval by ex Thief 1 and 2 devs. Some even say it's the true fourth game.. or prequel
@DorianBlackberg3 жыл бұрын
I think Warren Spector said in an interview, that the closing of LGS was the best thing that could've happen for video games. Because all this talent spread out into the industry: Irrational, Arkane and so on. Most of the people from LGS are still big names today.

Everyone seems so nice and the environment was so laid back. I'm really nostalgic for this time watching this, I think the late 90s/early 2000s was the last time where you could have these casual environments in what was AA / AAA back then. At some point games just got too big, development had to be more streamlined, developers had to be more professional and publishers took more control. There's a similar video like this at id Software from 93: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqGoc4iMlMxsrLc If you know of anymore videos like this, let me know.

30:28 Yes. That was indeed a great moment. Every time I see a retinal scanner in a game, I think "Gee, I hope there's a severed head or eyeball around here I can use on this thing." Wait a minute...when did Demolition Man come out?! Rest in piece, dear, dear Looking Glass.

I think the basic idea popped up in the awful old sci-fi film Saturn 3, from 1980 - with Harvey Keitel's head. I always wondered if the team had seen that film, because bits of it look like System Shock.

I saw an older video which spoke of the development of thief 2, they had plans for the 3rd thief game. Made me wonder what it would be like if Looking glass wouldn't have gone out of business
@NeilHoward1710 жыл бұрын
If memory serves, Looking Glass's Thief 3 would have been a contemporary remake of Thief Gold. Each level would be recreated in a modern setting, Garrett would have a modern array of tools to sneak and improvise his way through the levels, and the guards would be modern day rent-a-cops. Not sure what this would have done to the "Supernatural" elements, but it would have been interesting.

Neil Howard I think you're talking about Ion Storm's concept of Thief 4 actually.

Well at-least I wasn't imagining things. :) Still, would be fun to see a modding team attempt to do that pitch justice.
@MDUmairKh8 жыл бұрын
Yeah,,, seems like they were trying to make cash by taking Thief to modern setting, because Splinter Cell was pretty hot back then. It was to be directed by same guy who directed Deadly Shadows. I am not a huge fan of Deadly Shadows, so I don't think it would've worked, even though it sounded interesting on paper. Neil Howard

They closed the company that made games in 90's that in now 2019 are still ahead of times. Well done....business as usual. I cannot believe they could not save these amazing developers from closing down - those who could can now regret. Second thing are those gameplayers all around the world who failed to buy SS2 or Thief in masses like those who bought other pointless shooters. What a paradox.
