I think many of the new men’s fragrances are classified as fougere’s you went for more of the “classic” style. I would pick Chanel Platinum Egoiste with that mental cold feel in the heat works well. Also the new Viking Cologne would fit this list well. Was able to sample it and it’s very nice.A fresher more citrus Viking that will be great for summers.

Fantastic suggestions. I think Bracken is a bit strong and vintage, so maybe better in cooler temps. Sartorial can be cloying with the sweet dampened honeyed aspects coming through in humidity.. strange scent tbh. I'd include Roja Scandal Parfum Cologne for a traditional classic fresh fougere, Chanel Platinum Egoiste sharp fougere with heavenly metallic opening,.. and maybe even Cerruti 1881.

@Smelling Great Fragrance Reviews: Does that Pasha smells like the Fougere notes in the EDP but without the warm notes or different? I like those aspects but for my noise the mixture of fougere and that amber smells strange. Hoe about Bois de Portugal? Does Aqcua de Parma has a typical Lavender based Fougere scent too?
@ThePerfumeGuy3 жыл бұрын
Yes to me the new Pasha Parfum reminds me of the EDT without the warm notes and the heavy sandalwood. I'm assuming you can classify Bois Du Portugal as a fougere but it's not typically Fougere like for me. And I have not seen an ADP Fougere or Lavender heavy scent! :)

@JT-rx1eo3 жыл бұрын
Chanel Egoiste is not a barbershop fougere at all. Plus I don't like it at all. Now Platinum Egoiste is like a hybrid of a cool barbershop lavender fougere and the Green Irish Tweed DNA, producing a weird metallic accord to me. Not sure about hot/humid appropriateness though.

@@ThePerfumeGuy This is something I've never fully understood, the whole barbershop vs fougere. Although I own many of them, so as long as I like the scent maybe it doesnt matter.
@EOTA5643 жыл бұрын
Platinum Egoiste is such a versatile fragrance for a slightly older (30+) man. It’s not a fragrance that ever ‘wowed’ me and yet I reach for it again and again. And it works all year round.
@JT-rx1eo3 жыл бұрын
@@apollo5756 The way I've reconciled the whole "barbershopy" vs. fougere thing, which is a bit of a nebulous, ill-defined and subjective undertaking anyway, is to think of Venn diagrams. Those overlapping circles that show set relationships. Most fragrances that get annointed as "barbershop" are fougeres, but not all. Maybe 80 or 90%. And of course fougeres, by definition, pretty much follow the structure of its eponymous fragrance, the original 1882 Houbigant Fougere Royale. The note triad of lavender, coumarin and oakmoss figure in as the fougere backbone. "The smell of a fern" implies green to me. I suppose coumarin, with its "freshly mown hey" accord, did that for Fougere Royale, but I would think any notes providing a "green" accord would suffice. Lavender I think is the "indespensible note" in a fougere if there is one. If someone calls a frag a fougere and it doesn't have lavender I tell them the burden of justifying the label is on them. I read that a perfumer explained the difference between a fougere and a chypre as immediately being able to classify each based on the difference between the lavender-coumarin and bergamont-oakmoss accords. I guess the "clean, cool and masculine" association and vibe of lavender and green made the gentleman's barbershop association inevitable. But what about the other 10% to 20% of "barbershop" scents that aren't fougeres? Is classic Old Spice a "barbershop" frag? Pinaud Clubman? I would say so. Any aftershave qualifies in my book. Old Spice is not a fougere - it's a Spicy Oriental (the world's first for men!) Any scent, regardless of classification, can be considered a "barbershop" if it conjures an association.

As someone new to creating perfumes I don't get fougere or chypre types. It appears to me that it's just some descriptive title given to any scent having the list of 4 materials. Nothing more. You list 8 or 10 materials you smell her yet they likely have 5 or more you're not smelling. So if I create a perfume with 20 materials which is certainly not a large #, it might be called a Fougere just because in the list of materials, I happen to have used the basic fougere materials? We never seem to get definitions that aren't confusing.

IN a hot humid climate all the fougere's you recommended would be too for me much unless you are in a cold air conditioned building all day. I would only wear heavily citrus or tea based frags and I probably would not use niche except at night, in air conditioning, and for formal events. Niche can be cloying in the heat. I also feel to much heat and humidity "ruin" the best parts of a niche frag so why waste the money.
