I just reviewed the *Moon* and it is a fantastic scent. I get the leather facet from oud more than a dark skanky oud, mixed with sweet rasberry shisha, a divine scent without a doubt. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on it.

I love Frederick Malle scents. Especially, Portrait of a lady, bigarate concentrate, and Carmel flower. I smelled The Night at Barney’s in Las Vegas. They would not sample me any to take back home to San Francisco. I noticed how it smelled very strong and almost like a barn. They did explain that it contained 60% of real oud. The only memory I had of it was what I had sprayed on a card which I had placed in my large leather zip wallet and forgot about it. One day I opened my wallet and the most beautiful scent came wafting out and it was the Night. I then called the Barney’s in San Francisco and the guy that worked in the Frederick Malle section gladly sent me a couple of the samples. I should have purchased a bottle when they went on sale at Barney’s during their last days. Very soon I’ll have the promise and the Moon in my small collection.

That’s right, The Moon is rght in the middle between The Night & Dawn in intensity, so for those for whom The Night is too intense, The Moon is just a notch down. All 4 are great concoctions in their own right, but the quality of the Oud in The Night is still the best I’ve ever smelled, with BTV Nebulous coming as a relatively close second.✌️

I think I read somewhere that "the night" was intended to be an oud version of portrait of a lady as Frederic kept hearing people say they think or pick up oud in POAL and he said 100% there is not so he made a version with it.

I can certainly see where people may pick up an oud note in POAL. It has a very similar base that you get in a lot of rose-synthetic oud combo. The Night gut punches you with real oud and has POAL tied up and ball gagged in the background.

The Moon seems to be a really tempting fragrance for me, but FM should allow us to order factory samples from this collection, won't blindbuy a fragrance for this amount of money... at least do a travel 10ml available for testing

So I bought Promise, I def liked it but ended up selling it... Then pulled out my sample one day - which I then bought a 100ml bottle (2nd bottle) of shortly after. Ended up selling it again about a month later😄 Now on the fence w buying Moon. Wish me luck lol

The moon has insane sillage I thought you would’ve mentioned that. It’s almost as big as interlude man. The whole desert gems is really about beast mode sillage. They are so much bigger than the average Frederic Malle.

I own HdP Fidelis which is the predecessor of The Moon and I'm obsessed with it. It acts olibanum-y and wannabe fruity in the cold and rose-oud-y in the less cold. I'm up to chase down Promise, but Dawn and The Night is not my thing and not just because of their prices.

I seriously wonder how come any fecal note can still render a fragrance sophisticated and good smelling. Have two fragrances with oud but most likely synthetic, given how affordable they are: -Bentley Man Absolute: strong incense, but somewhat animalic, to me almost in the body-odor direction though, but not fecal for sure. -Banana Republic 17 Oud Mosaic: to me not animalic at all, makes me think of some wines not sure why, possibly some olfactory memory of mine. In any case, also for sure not fecal whatsoever.

Oh man they are so so different. Someone used to Polo Supreme Oud might be challenged with Dawn as it's animalic not as much The Night though but still. I would suggest getting a sample if you are curious! :)
