I’m so happy to have found you. Learnt so much and loving your fragrances more and more. Layering makes it all even more interesting and personal. Your Arabica is perfect for layering to add immense depth. 3 sprays of Alpha Man or Deviant or Goddess topped with 1 spray of Arabica and you are in heaven. Looking forward to your new release tomorrow.

Im a bit intrigued by this, i would never wear it out in public around people…but after 20 minutes it becomes quite addicting and beautiful. The barnyard smell goes away and you’re left with oud, a touch of rose and a touch of sandalwood and saffron.

what is very interesting about this niche house is the fact that they have a well-defined concept, Frederic Malle collaborates with 9 of the best perfumers in the world and their names are displayed on the bottle in a unique way, the chosen name is closely related to the story created by the perfume and they have a comforting freedom regarding the creation. Cheers, Aaron!

Have you ever heard of "Solstice Scents?" They have some of the most unique fragrance notes ive ever smelled. I would try Foxcroft, Foxcroft Fairgrounds, After the Rain, and During the Rain to start off with. They're hard to get a hold of though. She's an independent perfumer like you so her stock isn't enough for the demand sometimes.

Did you pick up on any blue cheese vibes? I kept hearing people say that this has a cheesy, fecal smell, but all I get from my sample is ammonia and piercing rose. I don't have an official sample, so maybe that's the reason. Thanks for the review.
@REDEMPIRECM3 жыл бұрын
A honest and informative review as always. I learned so much about perfumery on your channel! The concept of Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle is quite unique, although I don't like the scents very much. I think he (Frederic Malle) gives a chosen perfumer infinite budget, no briefing and let them create a fragrance in their own likes. A very popular Oud fragrances for you to review would be Alexandria II by Xerjoff. It would also be cool if you could test Bois d'Argent by Christian Dior and Jubilation XXV by Amouage. Cheers!
@interloper80293 жыл бұрын
My favourite oud from that house is the Moon, which is sweetened with berry notes (and less aggressively priced). Dawn and Night are rather faecal, and Promise has a lot of cypriol oil, making it rather green and dry for my taste. The brand makes all the bottles the same with the idea that the fragrance speaks for itself, although their oud ones are in gold boxes...

Gr8 description 👌🏻👌🏻 but please Aaron can u do a comparison between this one and Boadicea the victorious nabelous which contains real oud too 🙏🏻🙏🏻

With your experience of oud, I wonder if you notice a difference between the quality of oud in The Night and The Moon ? ( Also, review Malle's The Moon please! )
@tenore83 жыл бұрын
I bought a 3ml decant and actually like it very much. As an Oud-lover, I prefer Oud Assam by Rania J. The Night is a very good fragrance which is marketed for the ultra-snobs who have no issue shelling out this kind of money, if nothing more than for "bragging rights". If a 100ml were to cost $500, I would definitely splurge.
@rustyshackleford173 жыл бұрын
I came across this when I was getting into ouds (how I found you). Given the absurd cost, I only put in for two ml's just to see. When I tried it, I knew I was eventually going to have a bottle. Took about six months to find one for a "reasonable" price that I was willing to pay (about 50% from MSRP). That said, this shares similarities to Portrait of a Lady which is something I do enjoy quite a bit also...which you weren't fond of also. I do admit, the packaging is disappointing given how bloody expensive this is. But Frederic Malle's packaging is very lackluster to begin with. Unfortunately, it's the cost that really prevents me from wearing it all that often. It's more something I wear around holidays or a pick me up on the weekends.
@ciganyweaverandherperiwink62932 жыл бұрын
I was interested to read this. I'm in a definite minority by despising 'Portrait of a Lady'. I find the clove, green rose, patchouli, cinnamon, raspberry & blackcurrant duo a veritable bukkake of horror. The combination is all balsamic and tart and chemically, ergh. It just blasts up my nose like an almost acrid fume and becomes almost retronasal as it continues to slalom down the back of my throat. Ergh, I hate when you can taste fragrance that have a strong rose element anyhow. Unpalatable, cold and unfriendly. It's like Aeroguard. I've never heard anybody say they disliked it-- everybody raves about what a 'masterpiece' it is. How wonderfully confounding and compelling it all is. :)
@milkbaby992 жыл бұрын
I got a 2ml sample but am not getting much barnyard or fecal feel from it. It's somewhat sharp. Thanks for the info about oud aging under anoxic versus with oxygen conditions!

I know :D. And also, so many people love Prin Lomros' 'Haxan' fragrance too. I'm just as puzzled as you are. So many people are excited about leaving the house on a Saturday evening smelling like a furry, stressed and incontinent little mammal standing on top of a pile of rotting mushrooms, compost and its own faeces in the corner of an mouldy, damp enclosure at a badly funded Moldovian zoo. Wahey, party time! Also, not popular to blurt out but along with Victor Wong, Prin's exceptionally good at playing the charm offensive and wooing social media influencers and KZbinrs; he feeds their ego, gives them free stuff and then sits back knowing he's ring fencing himself from criticism and undiplomatic critiques from these quarters. Smart on his part and how shall I say....'illuminating and edifying' for us the savvy viewers, seeing who has integrity and courage and who doesn't.

I too collect oud and I love the barnyard smell as much as I love my Kinan Emperor oud. For me oud is meditative and you need to spend time alone with it, sometimes it can click instantly and others take a while. I also have some Hindi Oud that is changing the longer I have it. What was barnyard is becoming deeply earthy with almost a hint of coal here and there. The Emperor made me recoil the first time I put it on - it was almost fishy in a varnish sort of way, but then it opens with jasmine tea and a light dusting of vanilla followed by antique lacquered wood chests. My Muhyi Al Din from PNG is quite linear and I fell in love with it in a flash. It just smells like a high end tack shop with expensive saddles etc. My family say it has a spicy incense thing going on but I don't get it.

So glad you gave us that brief lesson on oud. Master oud distiller, Ensar Oud, also talked about this in one of his videos and basically said that an oud that is properly distilled and processed is extremely smooth, regardless of the region it comes from.
@AaronTerenceHughes3 жыл бұрын
That is correct. I only buy the highest grade Oud. Which is smooth and silky. I wouldn’t buy barnyard Oud
@ShahsawarM Жыл бұрын
The barynardish smell is not intrinsic to agarwood. It is due to the soaking of the agarwood which causes microorganisms to act upon it and this imparts the fecal/barnyard smell to the oud. Why is this done ? To increase yield

It is supposedly Hindi Oudh which is by nature the most animalic of the specific Oudh origins. Even some very expensive Hindi Oudhs are animalic (barnyardy), but that is usually the top facet, Hindu Oudhs are very balsamic and honey-like. The cheaper Hindi Oudh's, the leftovers are usually leathery. One Oudh specialist said this has signs of those leathery aspects which may suggest it is a cheaper Hindi Oudh, but we cannot know for certain. They are claiming 20% Oudh in this, which is quite a lot.

It takes 3-4 hours for the extreme barnyard smell to soften down. Then it becomes sweet, smooth and extremely wonderful! Lingers over 12 hours. This becomes more beautiful hour after hour. It is impossible to rate this properly and genuinely right after spraying it on. Unpalatable right away, the most wonderful and long lasting after time passing away. Definitely worth the money, but it takes planning to wear this properly.
