Vinegar is an old timers favorite way to kill mold and mildew. 60 years ago my grandmother and mother both would clean the house with vinegar when rainy weather made the house smell like mold. I have used vinegar to clean our house it works and make the house smell very clean after vinegar smell is gone. Vinegar is acetic acid it will evaporate same as water. I also learn by accident if I spray vinegar into the air during allergy season with an empty Windex spray bottle it kills mold in the air and my allergies are gone.

@@rayeintheyard Vinegar kills the mold, and the Borax keeps it from coming back... for "how long" - I don't know. It's been over 9 years, but I applied several heavy coats between drying for about a week (Florida heat in summertime) - it probably needs another application soon - but I'm not seeing signs of that yet. I believe the Borax is the key to it not growing back after the vinegar kills it... and how long the Borax will last as a deterrent on mold would probably depend on many various circumstances, including seasonal humid conditions, substrate, mixture, etc. that are involved, but that's how I used it at the time... so maybe I got lucky? i'm very interested in what others have experienced with this solution, if any.

There is a downside if it happens to be black mold: it can make you sick and cause permanent lung damage. Spraying any substance on mold will cause the spores to be released into the air and get into your lungs. There are a lot of molds thar appear grayish black in color. The only way to tell if you have the deadliest kind of mold - the black mold mentioned in the video - is to look at a sample under a microscope. Personally, I wouldn't mess with it, but if I had to use something to kill mold, it would be bleach or peroxide. As far as I know, bleach has been proven to kill black mold. I have had good results using vinegar to kill mold in my home as well as removing mildew from clothes that were in a leaky shed. The mold gets removed from the areas that I've sprayed, and have not returned to those sports for over a month. Unfortunately, the mold has shown itself in other areas that I did not spray the first time. High humidity spots have had returning mold on the spots sprayed within a month. As for the mildew clothes, the first wash adding some vinegar to the wash made the clothes smell like dirt. A second wash doing the same resulted in the clothes smelling fresh, no mildew stains either. For the mold, I used half and half of water and my 5% acidity distilled white vinegar. Using less water can potentially stain some materials or even etch some hard surfaces if left to sit for too long from what I've been told. For the wash, I used 1 cup of the same 5% acidity distilled white vinegar on a normal load setting for a washer about half full of clothes. I also added my normal soap pod without any bleach (this guy is correct in not combining vinegar and bleach).

Do you have to do everything in one fell swoop? I'm looking at some black spots on my vinyl walls I wanna tackle that right, and the carpets maybe but I feel like it may be on my clothes and I have to help identify the source(s) first. But at the least cleaning some right now would make it a bit better, at least.
@HikariMagic204 жыл бұрын
@@joeslacker1020 The quicker you hit all the spots you can find, the better. The longer things get left with mold within the home, the more chances it will get to keep spreading. Finding the source of the moisture is a big thing as well, if a source still exists. Though, if you take a few days to hit each area, that should be good. If the spots on your walls are not that big, then you should be able to treat it and be done with it (like speckles/small spots all over), but if the spots are kind of large (as big as your hand or larger), then you might want to consider cutting out the section with the mold and patch it up with fresh stuff. The reason to do this is because the black stuff on the surface is the fruiting body of the mold while its "roots" can reach deeper into the wall. Depending on the kind of wall, the mold might have a harder time getting in further than just surface deep. If you are not sure if the wall is salvageable, then you can just go ahead and clean it up and keep an eye on the area for a few weeks. If nothing grows back in the area, then it should be good until new mold spores find their way when the environment fits its needs.

@@joeslacker1020 Firstly, I should make sure to say that I am in no way a professional, take what I say as such. When taking in air from outside, it can help if you can use hepa filters. Any filters that can catch the mold spores, some can fit the AC. The door gap getting fixed can help as well, and if you have issues with high moisture, you can try a dehumidifier periodically. Also make sure that your ac is draining the condensation properly. Either way, so long as you are filtering the outside/inside air of spores, then keeping the fan going is good. Once you can get rid of what is already there, then a periodic filter change will be good a preventative measure. As for the spots around the windows, that could just be from some moisture buildup from condensation at times that allowed the mold to take root. Though, windows not fully sealed can be a contributor to mold growth that could slow your ability to remove the mold and keep humidity levels down inside.

And I'd make sure that your sources are science based papers or studies (like those on science.gov) which arevery good

Boric acid may be an interesting alternate to vinegar for this purpose. Relatively mild on it's own, typically comes as a powder that can be dissolved in water. Also relatively safe, since it can be used as an antiseptic although you'd probably not want to consume it like vinegar since there is some mild toxicity in that regard. Would leave dealing with black mold to the pros, but for other mold that gets on stuff it seems like a reasonable option.

I let both shoes dry and then polished them both with the same wax polish. The mould did not return on either shoe leading me to conclude that the vinegar trick may be an old wives tale. I suspect that light abrasion with any mild liquid is sufficient as it's the act of rubbing the mould that removes it.

It seems like the wax polish is perhaps why the mold didn’t return.

Can you do this with diluted lemon juice too? Vinegar smells awful, lemons smell lush!

How about in a washing machine? It's sometimes recommended, but I imagine the vinegar would get very diluted in there?

I use vinegar to kill moss and green algae on rocks and tree bark all time. Just don't use it to kill algae on concrete sidewalks or metal roofs as it is acidic and can break it down.

Thank you for posting this! I am so glad you brought up the fact that there is no data to back up the claim floating around about vinegar killing mold. I follow the evidence. I refuse to risk my family's life using something not proven to kill something potentially dangerous.

You need the cleaning vinegar and not the normal kitchen vinegar. Thereby you need soda. Make a porage of the salt and water.

This stuff is demonic the only and best thing to do when you get to this point of despair is turn to Jesus...He's trying to get our attention before it's too late! One can laugh all they want to but I'm telling you IVE BEEN HERE!!! God is the ONLY one who can give us the wisdom AND power to keep it from getting worse and HOPELESS & HELPLESS! I'm not being silly, do you know about the spirit world? It is a very real reality. For everyone. But there are those who don't have any problems really bc they devil doesn't need to mess with them bc he's already got them. And many are sitting in the pews on Sundays. My point is, if anyone is where I was.. completely lost, alone , hopeless and helpless 2 years ago, HERE'S your ANSWER. I will be glad to elaborate if anyone feels they are in this situation and needs to know more. God bless

Good video, thanks for spreading awareness about mold. However, not “ALL” plastics are non porous. So, if someone’s plastic is porous, it is not going to work. Some examples…… Standard Porous Plastic Materials: •Ultra High Molecular •Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) •High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) •Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) •Very Low Density Polyethylene (VLDPE) •Polypropylene (PP) Etc….. Baking soda is another controversial product widely recommended among the mold community, to kill mold. I would love you to do a video on whether or not baking soda kills moldy, with some studies to back it up. Thank you for spreading awareness about mold.

Your content is trully worthwhile, however, the current lighting of your A-roll footages can be distracting for us viewers. Try to set the light source above your eye level and behind your camera. Point the light down at you. This will give your video a natural lighting, which, in effect, will help us focus on your video.

So what is best to remove mold? I'm in the UK in a rented house and we have mold appear on our bedroom walls litterally overnight (live in an old single brick house with no insulation which our landlord if having someone come out check for leaks in the roof blocked guttering ect ect) but mold is popping up everywhere behind cupboards ect on outside walls iv used both white vinegar and a special mold killer spray avaliable in supermarkets is that the best I can do?

The older places in the UK can have rising damp, sometimes due to there being no damp course in the brickwork. They need to check that as well.As for good products that kill mold - try oil of cloves.
