This is an edit of a longer modular synthesizer jam.
As with most of the improvised music made with this device, I don't have a theme in mind when I start. It's mainly an exploration of melody and timbre. Usually a title for the recording occurs to me eventually but this time I just couldn't think of anything appropriate so I chose an issue that has been troubling me in my waking life. Credit. Maybe financial enxiety has influenced me to make some of the musical decisions in this video, and maybe the creation of this music has been a balm for the pain of my struggles with creditors. Do you think music can communicate complex ideas and emotions like that?

Music is a creative expression of our inner thoughts and emotions when we don't constrain it with preconceived ideas of what the theme should be. Personaly, I find I can have conversations with my synthesizers and instruments that would be difficult to have with another human being. Music is therapy.

I think I see one source of financial anxiety...all those euro modules :) This is beautiful and you made me want that tape recorder.

😮 Argh! My blind spot just keeps getting larger! 😅 But yes, that tape player is neat. I found it in a throat shop and could barely contain my excitement. I felt like screaming, "Do you people know what treasures you have here?!?"

I thought casette decks were only a legend passed down by the eldars lol. This sounds really good.

Love the textures and organic chaos here! I think music reflects our inner state, environment, and the moment we're in.

I just watched your own tape loop video, which I feel is much prettier but has a similar sense of exploration. I love the texture of slowed-down sounds! Yes I agree about music's reflective nature. I'd like to think that I'm good at decoding my own creations but often after I have upoaded something to KZbin, a listener's comment will reveal something that I hadn't realized. It's humbling and energizing.

Ooooh! Such a beautiful, meditative piece. And that cassette recorder is a beaut!!! I have a little collection of cassette recorders myself, but I don't know how to service them, so some have gone completely bonkers and wonky on me. Here's a funny story that happened to me recently. I purchased one of the 'We Are Rewind' cassette players a few weeks back. The day it showed up I was so excited! So I put in one of my tapes in it and pressed rewind to rewind the tape. The rewind button got stuck and wouldn't pop back up, so all it's good for is rewinding tapes. It was kind of a bitter sweet moment, and I couldn't stop laughing. But they've been very understanding, and sent a replacement.

This is very funny! "All we do is rewind."😆 I confess that I'm hoarding tape players. I can only justify it because I've tried to fix broken ones and discovered how insanely complex they are. My only defense is to snatch up working ones when I find them. I just have this nagging feeling that one day there will be no way to play my precious tapes!

That's so cool you did that with a tape player/recorder. I remember doing stuff with my old tape player but nowhere near as sophisticated as what you're doing (I wasn't very savvy with tech...even in its analog period). Oh, is that Thomas Jefferson on your desk? Why does he look like Haydn?

Yes I really enjoy playing with that tspecrecorder. I had a similar one as a kid but I could never figure out how to slow it down. It was such a joy to finally have access to the internet, where they teach us how to do things like that. Thanks for noticing my little image insert! That's my old buddy the scientist Caspar Wistar, who was a contemporary of Jefferson. I have his painting because I admire his spirit of curiosity.
