saw your videos and HAD to try the method for sewing on elastic. (I tried with about 300 pins, what a pain.) I made 3 pair of nylon tricot panties (for myself) and learned several things: YOUR method for elastic is far superior to others; by extending the side rise and width I could make full size briefs; and tricot is VERY hard to work with. Now inspired (thank you) I shall persevere ! Too bad I can't show you my finished knickers.......not bad for the first time. Thank you again and again !

I cannot abide waste, so was happy to find a way to use scrap cotton knit fabrics. These are by far the very best, most comfortable skivvies EVER!!! I used my measurements to cut out the pattern, but had to modify it after the first pair to allow for a slightly higher front waist, and cut about 1.5 inches from each side in subsequent pairs. I will never again pay good money for ill-fitting panties made in China! Thank you for introducing me to the notion of making my own, and also for a very thorough tutorial. All my friends and relatives are laughing at me, thinking I'm a crackpot for this, but I'm sure I'll have the last laugh.

I’d never thought of making my own knickers. Just a thought for us ladies that have a leakage problem instead of making pads would it be possible to add two extra layers to gusset sandwich a waterproof one and an absorbent one ? Also you could use the body part of old knickers as the gusset Another saving of fabric.

I just realized I have some new knickers that keep getting pushed in the back because the thigh area is to long (I like the boxer cut). All I need to do is take a pair I love and make a pattern from that and alter that area so it’s the length I like. I am larger plus size so I spend a pretty penny for underlies I actually like. I also live in the bahamas and have to wait until I am in the USA to stock up (hence have 6 new pairs that aren’t right after trying a less expensive brand. After seeing you demonstrate this I will trying to design my own. Also when I looked at the construction of the expensive ones I note they are poorly constructed at the band, so I don’t think I can do anything worse. Thank you.

I've often thought of making my own knickers...what a great tutorial. Consider that besides using up your fabric scraps, you get the assurance of knowing your article of clothing wasn't made in a sweatshop by an exploited worker somewhere. Better karma all the way around.

Just found your video on you tube . Loved your demo. I think I could manage this. I have actually purchased small amounts of fabric for just this purpose about 6 months ago, so it’s time. I do like the look of the picot edge. I have a few pair of purchased knickers but the picot is a little scratchy. Is yours nice and soft? Living in America it might be best to search here. I see your blog here so I will take a look at the patterns. Thank you again for a lovely video 🤗

Not long, it's just a few seams, there is more time involved getting used to working with the elastic. I never timed it but to be honest, I worry less about how long it takes ... much prefer a good result. I batch sew them now and they make-up rather quickly. Good luck! @@WendyHannan-pt7ez

I LOVE the Acacia pattern! I've been making these for a year or so now because I have extremely sensitive skin. Both picot elastic and serged seams cause me irritation, so I finish my "knickers" (love that word) with the banded method. They are the MOST comfortable panties I've ever had! I am SO grateful to Megan Neilsen for this pattern. Have you seen her latest? I'm now using her new men's underwear pattern to make my hub's undies too. They've been a big help in resolving a moisture problem he was having as well as being soft and comfortable like mine.

How is it legal that a company can sell a machine, but then have separate charges and sales for parts of the machine that the machine does or doesn't work without? I can see that there's a law stopping people from selling a machine without everything it needs to work, but what about the sewing machine above? Something to catch the offcuts. I wish people would go the extra mile a produce something which is good quality through and through.
@rebeccahutchings55367 ай бұрын
It must be a more sterile, professional feeling to the pants if their sewn using a sewing machine rather than a hand needle and thread.
