Loose lost and found edges watercolor painting - restaurant scene

Hi there Mike ! I really enjoyed this painting come to life ! I wish I was brave enough to start a painting without an initial pencil sketch or some guide lines ! I just love looseness in paintings of interiors ! The table in the foreground is just spot on with the white of the paper and the light sketch of the teacups ! I like the pen and wash technique as you can add a few light details and leave a lot for the viewer to make up the rest of the painting ! I usually use the Micron 08 Archival Ink black fine line pen. Never used a biro but seems to work really well for you ! I like the finished result as my eyes just move around the painting and there are a lot of places for the eye to rest and that’s what makes it wonderful ! Thank you for sharing once again Mike ! Thanks Lorraine. I haven't heard of that pen, I'll have to check that out. Working without initial line work isn't quite as bad as it seems at first. Providing you're working from light to dark, I find that I can get away with a few mistakes here and there. There are other times though when I definitely feel the need for some line work at the start. Varying technique keeps things fresh for me. Have a great rest of the week and see you on Sunday!

Thanks very much. Week was ok, it's been non-stop rain though so getting a little stir-crazy unable to go for a walk for a few days. Managed to get out in the light rain yesterday though which actually was really good. How are things with you, have you managed to get back to your commissions yet?
