Loose Tubes were a British jazz big band/orchestra active during the mid-to-late 1980s. Critically and popularly acclaimed, the band was considered to be the focal point of a 1980s renaissance in British jazz.

It's nice to have this footage up here for people to see as there's so little of the band at its peak. This is a particularly great and vibey gig with pretty much the original line-up, such happy memories!

I beg that it doesn't get taken down by the tubular powers that be !

@@josefstout2194 that would be a very stupid thing to do!

They were amazing - saw them a couple of times, Sheffield and possibly Manchester, at about this time and have their albums on vinyl. Shame there is so little online - this really captures the atmosphere, personalities and excellent playing. Follow some of them as individual musicians to this day.

someone gave me a cassette of this in the 80s, maybe a bootleg, I lost it ages ago, so glad to have found a decent recording

I had the great good fortune to see them a couple of times, in Newcastle and in Leicester. Absolutely amazing. Thanks for sharing this footage. By coincidence, I'm going to see a rather similar band this evening - Vienna Composers Big Band . . .
