Lovely! One could think this is just a few blobs, but there is so much to look at. The buildings. The fence. The white strip in the middle is a road. Brilliant work. Can't wait to try one.

A painting of great effect, I find the color combination truly formidable. And the fading effect of the houses in the background, with the dark trunks in front, gives it a very interesting movement. Enchanting!

Thanks so much Edo, I painted the trees first to see how big they grew with the wet in wet, then added the buildings last to fit them exactly to the position of the trees! I miss the cat too, I knew it needed something but what to add? Then this afternoon I thought of a cat 😊🤣😻

Stunning shows me to not be such a control freak when painting :)
@edzejandehaan92654 жыл бұрын
A very bold expressive style. I like it. I could use some of that looseness, I am ridiculously controlling when drawing/painting, and started a watercolor quest to try and change that. I found a calligraphy brush gathering dust in a drawer, and really love how it handles. That paper you use seems to handle all that water very nicely, a 100% cotton? Edit;okay, I went and actually read the text under your vid, and there you list all the materials, thanks😉

I did this! Too bad I cannot send my version here. I was quite happy to result.

My highest praise when I say you remind me so much of Bob Ross--similar approaches with large undefined background shapes, & a "dab in and out, hither & to" create proper shapes on layer two. I know we both get excited with granulation! I'm curious if a granulation medium might aid using Cotman paints? Thank you for sharing, Lois! Fanna Turano Denver, CO
@LoisDavidsonArt4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Frances, high praise indeed :-) I've never tried a granulation medium before, so I'm afraid I don't know. Maybe one day I'll do some experimentation!

Thanks so much! I think sometimes it is better to work unconventionally to achieve the best effects, wet it wet can be difficult to predict!
@safi4563 жыл бұрын
I saw your channel first time last night. This painting is so skillfully done, looks exactly like an Ortega. I really wanna have a go; please can you tell me how wet the sky is before you add the skyline? I want to get some nice blooms for the trees, but not sure how wet the background should be, and how thick/thin the tree paints should be.
@LoisDavidsonArt3 жыл бұрын
Hi I'm afraid it is trial and error, best to experiment, it will be different for every painter depending on how warm their studio area is, which paper they use etc. Generally, make blooms etc when wet, add skyline when damp or dry
@bonnieshapiro35112 жыл бұрын
I’m wondering where you got the big calligraphy brush. So far I’ve checked on Amazon and Ali express. Unsure about ordering what I’ve seen so far. I liked the way your brush picked up the paint and allowed you to lay the paint down. Just a lovely painting. Love the effects you achieved. Thanks

Could we have painted the building outlines before the trees?
@LoisDavidsonArt3 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes, you can do that, probably easier but I’m a bit unconventional in my approach and I wasn’t sure how big my trees would end up as the wet in wet process can be a bit unpredictable! I preferred to let the trees grow and diffuse on the page first and then place the buildings!
@pattycyr86623 жыл бұрын
I really like this. What make hake brush do you use? I'm not happy with mine - never seems to pick up the paint or stay in it. Thanks

@LoisDavidsonArt4 жыл бұрын
I use Saunders Waterford cold pressed NOT paper and hot press, and Millford cold pressed paper, I prefer cotton paper
@andreeaciotura98603 жыл бұрын
Does the material of the hake brush has to be soft or rough?
