The NHS is facing the biggest workforce crisis in its history, with staff shortages creating serious risk to patients’ safety. With no solutions in sight, there have been suggestions of patients paying extra fees of up to £8 per day for hospital beds - which could apparently help to ease the strain. But, is it fair to fork out more to help the NHS? Kaye thinks this would be like sticking a plaster on an ‘oozing wound’, and Brenda doesn’t think people should pay extra for hospital beds.
