Loot (1970) by Silvio Narizzano, Clip: Opening Titles and scene - Hal and Dennis visit the West Pier

The Image: A lovely, colourful opening scene (+ a bit of sinister of course - this is a late 60s deserted British pier - deserted - with typical anti-establishment overtones - eg, Hal and Dennis (apparently boyfriends!) enjoy shooting at tin images of British stereotypes of the 'repressive' state such as clergymen, policemen, judges and so on - plus how the money turns green! ps - always remember West Pier's more famous and literary neighbour "The Palace Pier" featured in Brighton Rock (1947) by John and Roy Boulting.
I live within minutes of the now now totally derelict West Pier, Brighton featured in this clip, so it is wonderfully nostalgic to see it in its heyday in the late 60s (not that I ever did mind you).
In fact it is more than derelict now - just a few girders remain today. (See:eu-assets.simp...)

They're off to leer at some crumpet... It looks like just the sort of film where they actually do say "Crumpet", and the aforementioned 'crumpet' says "Ere, get orf..!" in a squeaky voice... Am I close..?

Very close, indeed! it's all very cod/faux cockney lingo and cheeky goings on - by Joe Orton as I am sure you know - but the gay angle is very underplayed so that you really wouldn't know it was there - with Hywel Bennett (do you remember him? Starred in that awful 80s series "Shelley" then drank himself to death?). Anyway Hywel Bennett's character despite being nominally gay as the opening shots suggests actually beds about 3 women in the film (and trophies of 15 or so more in the form of their underwear which he keeps as trophies.) So though he gay angle seems to be out, British sexism and lechery is very much in - together with a healthy dose of good old British racism - eg, he shares a fantasy in which he wants to have sex with a "spade"* (sic) woman so as to add to his collection! It's on Amazon prime now if you fancy it! * Quite obviously I abhor that word/racial slur - even thinking of telling Amazon to include warning on the film description. (You did ask!)
