The Tumbi is a one string musical instrument that is known for being easy to play (it even says so on the Wikipedia page), but how easy is it exactly?
This week Charles tries not to embarrass himself as he attempts to play the Tumbi for the first time!

The peg handle should be on the backside of the neck, with the tip of the peg sticking through to the front, with the string wound on on the tip of the peg and wound tight against the neck so it pulls the peg in tighter as you wind the string. It’s how violinists wind their strings to keep pegs tight, by winding the string against the wall of the peg box so it pulls the peg in tighter.

I've made one over my channel.... i suspect that these metal bands on the stick are made to be positioned as frets, so you don't have to push so hard, and then this would not get out of tune so quickly. The more you push the strings, more they get out of tune.

Apparently 'easiest' is a subjective term. Regarding the Missy Elliot tune, have you considered the possibility that ONE Tumbi note was sampled, then mapped to a keyboard, drum machine or virtual instrument? That's how I'd do it... to keep it easy.

Alot of strings players use peg paste or a bit of wax to tighten up the peg so that it doesn't come loose. The wax if you use it should only be hand warm bees wax that you fold onto the peg after you had balled it then wedge it gently back into the peg hole. Had to do so with my cello and a friend's violin. Held tune fine after.

I'm no fan of peg tuning, but violins get by with them just fine. Some of it has to do with with winding the string so it squishes against the instrument as wound tighter. Also the wood used for the instrument neck and the pegs can make for arrange that stays tight. Search violin tuning videos.
