Melodica should've been number one. The fact that you can't play it doesn't take away from the fact that it is a very expressive instrument that supports the full chromatic scale (unlike the diatonic scale of the kalimba), and it can be played as a lead instrument as well as accompaniment.

Not sure if this has already been commented, but that sound effect you were struggling to recognise on the roll out piano was the sound of a finger running up or down a guitar string.

The mystery sound on the rollout piano (5:01) is called a "finger squeak" on guitar, where if you shift up the neck with your fingers dragging on the strings, you get that noise. They apparently took a sample and then pitch shifted it up and down to make a scale...?
@mage95644 жыл бұрын

I think harmonica and maybe recorder are the best cheap instruments. Recorder does get expensive if you want to play it professionally. However at harmonica 50$ will pretty much get you professional level instruments that great harmonica players used even decades ago. Of course there are custom 300$ harmonicas but you won't _really_ need them. Most professionals only have few of those. Be aware tho, if you get hooked up on them then they can get expensive since there are a lot of different keys and the more experienced you get you will blow them out sooner. But still they are super affordable. I don't know any other instrument where the same model serves both beginners and professionals.
@alecrisser122 жыл бұрын
Two instruments I feel I should be on this list are the 12 hole ocarina and the Yamaha YRF-21 Fife. The Ocarina is a bit pricier but easier to play, however the Fife is a little more than $10, and if you know how to play a flute you can get much more nuanced sounds out of it. With that face you can do about 80% of what you could do on a flute, however it sounds a little shrill compared to the flute or the Ocarina.
