I'm honestly surprised it took so long for the concept of a "looter shooter" to take off like it has. The earliest version of this sort of PvP/Looting I can think of is the wilderness in RuneScape... And even back then it was hugely popular, so much so the game practically died when it got removed. Edit: He literally talked about this 30 seconds after my comment lol.

Aqua... you will forever have my love for mentioning Asheron's Call. It's hands down one of my favorite games ever and my first MMO. The first day I played that game, I played it for 48 hours straight. The fact that you could make whatever character you wanted by choosing the skills made it amazing, and then they released HOUSING, I cried.

The division got me into the looter shooter genre. Currently enjoying the division 2 on my PS5 . I did enjoy borderlands 2, but the world of division 1&2 are incredible dense. Love the amount of detail. Alot of times I'll just patrol and it's very ingaging, not too many dull moments. I enjoy that I'll be taking on a group of enemies and before you know it, a different enemy faction patrol will be walking in the vicinity and BAMM! all hell breaks loose LOL. Also love the 3rd person view(didn't like it at first since I came from first person shooters) because being able to see my character wearing the gear I looted is satisfying. The fact that every obstacle you see in game, your able to take cover giving a more immersing experience. Running and gunning in call of duty, battlefield and borderlands are fun, but I found myself having a better time having to take cover from gunfire, especially in the heroic world tier.

The big thing Extraction shooters need is an endgame. As it stands right now you get to the top of the power curve and either sit there stomping on pubbies until everyone is bored or 'Prestige' for little to no real benefit. Give me something meaningful to do with all of these giant kits I now have access to!

exactly - BSG had it right with the 1st version of Tarkov called "Contract Wars" where you would get a Black Division token that could be used on unique perks and upgrades/guns. sorta like the prestige token from the earlier COD's.

Nice analysis, Aqua. I really, REALLY want to like extraction shooters, but I find that there's a few flaws I can't get past. Firstly, the zero-to-hero aspect. Joining a game like this immediately puts you at massive disadvantages, since your competition not only has a better understanding of the game's mechanics, but ALSO has better armor than you, better ammo than you, and 23 attachments on their gun and already knows every angle to peek at you from to doink you before you even realize they exist. I feel like some kind of level-based matchmaking is in order, or better yet, make the beginning zones NPC only with low-tier loot, which would give new players a real chance to get acclimated to the tools of the trade without some dirty extract camper or level 100 professional rat hiding in a corner doming them. Hell, I've been playing the SPTarkov mod for a couple of weeks now and I haven't enjoyed the game more. I still suck at the game, but it feels a lot more fair to me

When i think "looter shooter" i lean more towards games like borderlands and destiny, I think the tarkovs of the world do have looting and shooting elements (i mean thats the whole point of them) but they deviate from what i think would be a traditional looter shooter experience. I really like the idea of considering them like a sub genre within the larger scope that is looter shooters, calling them extraction shooters or extraction looters feels a bit more appropriate. great video mr fps

Aqua..In my experience he first inception of this genre was Wolrd War Z, which had to change its name due to the movie and became infestation survivor stories.. It then became Aftermath, which they roped in G A romero's son or some shit to add some credence top the game and it WAS a killer game.. Then they released Shattered skies, same concept, but it wasn't good. then and I am pretty sure he is involved Sergay Titov released this game.

DMZ needs something to work towards with the exfils - the guns aint enough when we can have whatever we want right there with the insured slot. Gotta have like multi-million dollar cases to splurge on that adds some unique benefit or something with the stash - just looting guns is basically warzone mode.

TL;DR Thanks for the Vid man. Looter shooters are great, hope more come out in the future, Tarkov is the best, but DMZ at is doing it for me. DMZ need to fix some stuff. Mechanic task DMZ, if you know, you know. I've been exactly like you man. I dropped 700 hours into Rust within 2 months and then got to Tarkov and got absolutely hooked. Got wayy more hours in Tarkov than I'm proud toa admit. But Tarkov didn't do it for me this wipe and I almost felt guilty for not playing. Been looking forward to DMZ and I gotta say it's alot of fun got a bunch of hours in already. It's nothing like Tarkov, gear is way to easy to get, but atleast you have tasks and doing stuff in it gives rewards for cod. DMZ is a good try but they need to do alot with it. Would aslo be good to have an actual money systme in it. Because you just lose all your money, and the tier 4 tasks are so stupid some of them puts tarkov tasks to shame. Bring 24 Blow tourches, 20 jumper cables and some more stuff to a drop of point. with no flea market or any way to gather items and bring them in together. So you have to find them same raid and deliver it. Killing people and taking the weapon case is fun, but dying is no big deal because good loot is so accessable. We're looting the airport everytime, or just using the current money glitch (WHICH I HOPE THEY PATCH). DMZ has so much potential, not to compete with tarkov in that matter, but to be an ease into the looter shooter genre. And God Do I hope they tweak it abit to be a bit more... advanced. Not like tarkov, but a good stash system and actually having money be worth something is a good thing. Cuz right now I 1v3 easy because I don't care if I die. I really hope the future bring some good looter shooters with them, because so far. Tarkov, the cycle and DMZ are 3 for 3 of what I've tested. Mauraders is probably cool and all but I'm not that into Sci-fi. Thanks for the video man.

Tarkov makes cod blush. I actually started with dmz and moved to tarkov. Then, found myself instantly immersed by intricacies of the game. After playing tarkov, cod dmz is but a shallow puddle compared to the ocean tarkov is.

Should check out ascension wow. Private server for wow. Can’t play on streams but in free time if you want, basically a wow but every 2 levels you get a random ability, from any class. And there’s also a pvp mode where u can loot other peoples gear. It’s pretty cool to experience but gets kinda “boring” after a bit But so much to do and test if you’re really willing.
