He has to be on the radar of stats man Steidten and no move yet presumably down to other priority positions (regret we never moved for the younger version of McGinn) - if we can move on Soucek and/or JWP, should try and get him while affordable.

How about another Celtic player - Canada's right fullback Alistair Johnston? He'd be great cover for Coufal and could assume the position full time when he eventually goes. Johnston has had a great time at Celtic and has also shone at Copa America this summer. BTW - Ryan Gauld - recently named to the MLS All-Star Game - is still off limits! He scored last night in the first leg of the Canadian Championship semifinal. His goal involvement record has remained strong. And talk is increasing that Gauld would be a good fit in midfield or forward line for "Les Rouges" at the 2026 World Cup. What player would pass up that opportunity? Do you really think Scotland will give him a cap ... and then include him in a team bound for the 2026 World Cup? A very long shot at best! Whereas, he'd almost be guaranteed a spot on the Canadian team and have a very good shot at playing for a country where he's played for four seasons.

We need a cm. Soucek or jwp are just not good enough to be starting in a team that want to challenge for Europe. Soucek can come on from the bench and make an impact but theres no way he should be starting for us next season if we want to kick on. He's good in the air, absolutely awful at passing and loses the ball way too much. Incredible slow and doesn't offer enough defensively

@@HammersChat I think he’d do well at West Ham and I’ve seen rumours of Paqueta leaving. If Paqueta was to go then Matt O’Riley would be perfect to fill that sort of advanced central midfielder role (correct me if that’s not where Paqueta plays?). I went to San Siro to watch Milan play a few months ago and ironically it was Atalanta who they were playing. Seeing them first hand Atalanta were a brilliant unit under Gasperini and the atmosphere was crazy so I could see either move having perks. If I had to pick a league I’m a big Serie A fan so I’d like to see him go there but if West Ham do get him be very excited!

Different type of player but in terms of his place in the XI, yeah certainly. Am still unsure what his best position is as such, guess that can be a good thing as he’s capable of more than one but perhaps as a #8 in some games and further forward in others, depending on who we are playing.
