I have owned the Maytag Commercial for about 4 years now and I wanted to correct some mis-information in the video as far as hot water so buyers can make an informed decision. The Maytag only TEMPERS the hot water on the normal cycle. It also only fills half way on normal and doesn’t fill a second time to rinse, it just sprays water as it spins. This normal cycle is like their eco cycle. All the other cycles does give you 100% hot water along with filling to the top and doing a true re-fill rinse cycle. I have owned it for years and have tested all of this. Again, you get 100% hot water in all but the normal cycle. I usually use the mixed or power wash cycles which are full function cycles. I have had no problems with mine in 4 plus years and the dual agitator is what sold me on it, it really gets dirty clothes clean. I highly recommend this washer.

I had a Maytag commercial. At the time I purchased the Maytag, it only had a one year warranty. The Maytag lasted exactly one year. Maytag would not fix the machine but luckily I bought an extended warranty from Home Depot and they couldn’t fix the machine so they gave us a full replacement cost coupon for a new machine of our choice. The Maytag cleaned well but broke beyond economical repair. Steer clear of the Maytag.

If you bought it at Home Depot it may not be a true _COMMERCIAL_ washer, but a _COMMERCIAL TECHNOLOGY_ machine. Home Depot doesn't carry the MVWP575GW reviewed here, but one of the Whirlpool clones that also include machines badged as _Amana, Roper, Conservator, Crosley...._

I have the Maytag commercial washer with the 5 year warranty. I have had it for 5 years. It has broken down 4 times since I have had it, About once a year. First time was the Water Pump, second time was the Actuator, third time was the wiring harness (break in wire that tech couldn't find so he replaced), forth time was the transmission. The transmission gave out right when the warranty expired. Each time a repair was needed it took at least 30 days to get it fixed. I'm now shopping for another washer. I figure I have a spare part of everything after the 5 year warranty, if I can still get the P575GW0 model. It's a sad deal......most washers are junk and your lucky to get 3 years out of them without problems. (Average 5 loads per week.) UPDATE: After doing some research, I ended up purchasing a Speed Queen TC5.

Thumbs up!! One more thing - if Speed Queen will not stand behind you A DEALER, why would they stand behind me in my house in Miami Florida? Didn't they stop selling to you because they didn't like your review of the 2018 machine? I can't support them even in recommendations until they apologize to you publicly, give you a machine, and re-instate your dealership! That is just plain baby-nonsense to say if you don't say what they want, you can't be a dealer. That is censorship by bullying. I can't accept that.

Totally agree with you here...it's one thing if SQ was The Only good option out there...but clearly, there's another good option, so SQs handling of their own screw up by removing anyone who criticized it, is complete BS. That's not how good business is done and I really hope they're paying a price for it as Eugene does a great job with helping his customers out.

When I was assigned in the U.S from time to time I used to go around in your country just like any tourist. And I came across this scene in a construction site being worked on by a construction firm and here is my story. I came across this particular construction site, and other sites just like it out of curiosity and they said these same stories again and again! In the late 1960s and early 1970s construction workers used to say they can toss anything into a laundry machine that is heavily caked in oil and mud and even heavy boots in construction sites and these laundry machines and driers just keeps on doing the job 24-7 and 365 for many and many and many and many and mnay decades! One of the older workers said, these washing machines just keep on taking all kinds of abuse and yet they did a very good job in cleaning our stuff for decades without any problem ever since I have been working for this company for more than 50 years, he is a field foreman on that site. And my question is this. WHAT HAPPEN? I came across this particular construction site, and other sites just like it out of curiosity and they said these same stories again and again! I AM NOT LYING! AND I CAN STILL REMEMBER WHAT HE SAID AND I CAN STILL REMEMBER HIS OLD WEATHERED FACE WHEN HE TOLD ME THAT. So my question is, what happen!? His claims are true about those OLD corporate washing machines own by these construction companies, so my question is, WHAT HAPPEN!?

@@darthvader5300 Planned obsolescence abd corporate greed us what happened. So did consumer refusal to pay higher prices during inflationary times. Consumers are memorized by pretty lights, abd buttons and dials that give them a feeling of power to control a machines functions more precisely. They were told that appliances would last longer with less "moving parts" - the BIG LIE. HEAT and MOISTURE are the enemies of printed circuit boards. And what do you unavoidably have in kitchens and laundry rooms? BOTH ENEMIES! Manufacturers made appliances more electronically complicated in response and also to meet ever increasing One World Government mandates for energy and water usage abd polution reduction. We now have washers with plastic gears that make mud out of 3 gallons if water instead of the 10-20 gallons deep waterw washers like these use. Corporations NEED you to replace appliances more often because we don't have the post WWII population explosion feeding demand anymore. SPEED QUEEN washers are the ONLY truly heavy duty washer makers for home use. ALLIANCE - their renamed company builds virtually ALL BRANDS of commercial washers found in hotels and laundromats. A SQ front load washer is identical to the smaller machines cyo find in laundromats. Thus guy is a salesman trying to get you buy his high profit MAYTAG made if plastic parts identical to those of a cheap AMANA. The Speed Queen hasn't changed much since the 1960's. Changes have made them MORE SERVICEABLE. Are you sure this hustler used the same amount and type of detergent?

@@FredFlintstone21What has worked for me: Warm water, then rub Fels Naptha soap and work it in with a soft toothbrush. Let sit 15-30 min. If stain is older or complex, spray with Oxiclean Max Force-after Fels Naptha-and let sit overnight. Wash on WARM with an Oxiclean boosted detergent like All plus Oxi (this one has enzymes), add 1/4c Washing Soda to help detergent penetrate better. If garment could use disinfecting or is a towel/sheet, add 1-2 tbsp sodium percarbonate. Do not put in dryer until stain is gone. If it's an industrial mess like grease or chemicals, try making a paste of Lestoil plus Tide powder plus 70-90% rubbing alcohol. Rub on stain with toothbrush. After a couple of hours, spray with Max Force and let sit overnight. Launder per above instructions (WARM + washing soda).

Simple breakdown of the deciding factors. SQ5000: Last five years longer(transmission/general durability) IF the 2 control boards holdup which may be hard to replace in a few years as they are exclusive to the model. Maytag: Washes a little better, core repairs are easier and parts easier to acquire for DIYers. 10/5 warranty on the GW model is the one to buy if you choose Maytag. Cheaper. That's my take. I went through this and bought the Maytag and I'm about 2 years in now with no issues at all.

Good performance is important but reliability and repairability are super important to me. Paying 30% more for a washer that lasts twice as long is a no brainer. SQ has a factory service tech in our area, and Maytag did not, so factory warranty and factory service was a big deal to us, especially in our current world of throw away/replace vs. old school service epair. Both MT and SQ were nice machines, either is a great choice. Check out factory service in your area before buying.

Thanks for posting and sharing! I have the Speed Queen TR3 Model from 2018, and I strongly believe the agitator for Maytag is a whole lot better from what I see. The "AUGER" style from the Maytag seems to do more of a detailed mix of the clothing than the Speed Queen. The SQ seems to just leave the clothes floating on top without the agitator mixing it, I noticed that AFTER I bought this SQ model. And sometimes I still see some debris and dirt even after I do a wash, so for me this is very disappointing! Next time I buy ANY washer, I'm gonna make sure it has the AUGER type agitator. I used to own a Whirlpool washer (the first kind of model WITHOUT an agitator, just a tub) and boy, was it a joke! Sometimes it left the clothes soaking wet even after the wash had completely ended...I junked that sucker! Never cleaned also! I'm a part-time oil worker so I HAVE to use a top quality washer to clean my clothes. If I'm too oily when I come home, I either douse myself with my garden hose water outside using dishwashing soap and a large scrubber to clean myself and clothes with and toss in the washer after, or I sometimes strip down and use the washer if it's not that bad.

Would much rather have the reliability and not have to buy a new washer every 5 years. With a quality detergent and good laundry routine (ie don’t let stains sit untreated for a week) the SQ will do a fine job.

Thanks for the side by side comparison and you answered THE most important question for me...HOT WATER. I just got a GE washer that says "deep water wash", "deep rinse" and a "hot wash"...nope. It cheats on the hot wash, starts hot, you put your fingers in the water..ow ow ow...HOT, but as soon as you close the lid, it adds cold....wash temp was 92. We own an HVAC company and clothes are touching condensate lines from commercial buildings that can contain contaminates such as bacteria from Legionaire's Disease, deadly molds and even viruses...so HOT HOT HOT is necessary. Whites in this new GE machine, coffee stains still on my dish towels...same towels I've had for years, same soap, same bleach, same water, same coffee even...but wash agitation must be useless or lack of hot water...stains remain. Deep water is a joke...gigantic stainless tank...but haven't been able to use the top six inches for anything. It has an agitator, but can't use the top six inches of that either. I've tried a few work-arounds...nope. Machine going back. Probably will get the TC5 because I need the scalding hot water to wash work clothes, towels, sheets...and now, omg, my kitchen towels. Got to wondering if the GE could get skid marks out of undies...probably would leave that too. YECHHHH!!! Is there a work-around to fill the Maytag with scalding hot water??? BTW-Was born in Cleveland, lived in Avon Lake...in Lorain County! Now in Kansas. Thank YOU for this comparison!!!

All manufacturers are putting the "commercial" label on their machines and they are done in a couple years. Maytag included. Not so with Speed Queen. I do think that Speed Queen should update their agitator to some kind of dual action type. They would then have a killer washer. The electronic controls are so expensive and prone to failure in Whirlpools(Maytag} Maytags are just whirlpools dressed up like Maytags and nothing like the old Maytags. Whirlpools also frequently need motors, shifters, splutches and lid switches that retail at about $100 and use a cheap electric pump, again which needs replaced frequently. The $200 price difference is easily spent when you have 1 service call on the flimsy built Maytag(Whirlpool). Also you can get SQ on sale sometimes for $899.

You obviously put a lot of effort into this comparison, thank you for that! However I decided to go with the Speed Queen. For those who don’t really know, this 2019 model is the classic transmission that’s been used by Speed Queen for decades and has a solid track record of proven reliability. From experience, the agitator works just fine cleaning the dirtiest of clothes as long as you are using a quality detergent. My parents had their Speed Queen for over 25 years with no issues so for me personally, the extra $200 in purchase price is money well spent. Also, the Speed Queen I’m told has all metal gears and the Maytag uses plastic parts. If this is in fact true, for the long haul, you can pretty much guess which brand will be the winner in durability.

I have an AWN542 that's about eight years old. It still performs flawlessly. I'm glad that Speed Queen has gone back to the older design with a transmission. But it's unfortunate that the TC5 has electronic controls. Analog switches on my older machine not only give me infinite control of the water level. But I can instantly rotate the cycle dial to extend the wash time (using the same tub of detergent), add another rinse, add another spin, or anything else I want to do. When my machine eventually dies, you can bet that I'll do whatever is necessary to repair it, before buying an electronically controlled washer that limits what I want to do.

I love the chart that’s not to say that I agree with it. Although the Maytag offers five year warranty probably between the sixth and seventh year it will fail, plastic will only last for so long under continued use. The Speed Queen will definitely outlast the Maytag so that extra $200 investment will well pay for itself. For those that want to keep and hold onto a washer and not having to have the expense of replacing it every 6 to 7 years which is what you would have to do with any new washer purchased nowadays. The spin speed comparison is negligible, the hot water choice is of course important to those who care about it and noise level is subjective. I believe when you washed the comforter you used the bulky setting (should have been heavy duty) on the speed queen which is actually a slow speed wash and that doesn’t compare to the Maytag‘s high speed wash. Turnover would be the same if we compare apples to apples.

But 20 years ago when I was washing baby diapers every other day, I would definitely have gone for the Speed Queen (I used to turn off the cold water supply to the washer, to force it to give me actually hot water).

Fix your old machine D,0N'T BUY MAYTAG!!!!!!!!! THEY DON'T FILL, THEY DON'T CLEAN. THEY CAN'T HANDLE BIG LOADS THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO. THE HAVE CONSTANT CONTROL PANEL ISSUES, THEY DON'T SPIN DRY WELL. THEY DON'T THOROUGHLY RINSE..... AND THE LIST GOES ON.

Thank you! have had the speed queen left it on a move as an asset for buyer. Now going to buy maytag. May miss the hot water but I used it straight hot rarely. So magtag hot may be speed queen warm setting? The only thing I did not like about speed queen is that in several random ;places inside the rim; is made out of some material that has rough edges, snags the heck out of towels when loading and unloading, won't miss that feature on brand new towels. I can see the front rough edges in the picture. A file would remedy the situation.

I am a 25 year experience technician and I strongly recommends Speed Queen. This machine has a commercial strong construction that can last too many years than new Maytag model.

I agree with you on that. I am a 35 year experienced Tech! The TC5000 series is like the older design. Has the transmission and brake system with no lid lock. A metal tub instead of the Maytag plastic. I have never seen a plastic tub on a true commercial washer. I am not fond of the TR series. Less electronics to fail also. I don't care for the support arm design that holds the Tub. The suspension system on the Speed Queen is superior.

Then why only a 3 year warranty? Also the old models that lasted years didn't have the pc boards like in the new models.

I’m happy with my g.e. Washer. Bought them brand new over 20 years ago, dryer still performs like new, never had to do service. I rebuilt the washer with a new transmission from eBay and it’s working good as new, they still look very nice. The dryer is about due to be taken apart for cleaning. Don’t overload your washer, this makes them work much harder and it doesn’t wash well. Throwning too much wet laundry in a dryer puts a lot of work on the rollers and belt, also too many clothes in the dryer makes it take forever to dry. There needs to be room in the tub so the clothes can tumble in the hot air.

The lid should unlock in case of power failure, at least that's what I've seen with LG washers.

This is very helpful. I am so torn about washers & which I should buy. Also, I don't trust warranties. I have a Maytag range with a 10 year warranty and after 3 years, the heating element in the over stopped working. They would not honor the warranty & said: Oh, that only applies to the cook top surface. When I buy a washer, I want a good aggressive washer motion, a nonlocking lid, and a reliable machine. My sister in law has the Maytag above & loves it. My appliance guy loves the Speed Queen. Decisions, decisions.

I wonder why Maytag would temper the hot water to ~90 degrees. I was sold on the Maytag Commercial... until that part of the comparison. My son has a dust-mite allergy and they recommend bedding be washed at 130 to kill dust-mites. PS Thank you so much for the videos and comparisons!

Thank you so much for this video. I have become obsessed with watching these videos. I can't stand my "new" Whirlpool washer and after owning it for over 3 months I am going to get rid of it because I can't live with it. I was leaning towards the 2019 Speed Queen, but after watching this I am thinking maybe Maytag....but as you said "don't overthink it"...Thanks again for this video. I only wish I lived closer to you, but I am almost 2,000 miles away.

I have the maytag. The fuzz in the dryer screen is the less I've ever gotten. That means it does not beat up on my clothes. The soak cycle is making it do a better job by letting the detergent do the work. It does a super job getting out stains. Have not seen that before. You use liquid detergent then.

I kind of wish that the speed queen also bought part of the patent for the "dual action agitator" so that lots more people would buy speed queen. I really like old school washers, no matter what the company. the transmission is just awesome!! I love the transmissions.

google articles about people putting the 'GE hydrowave dual action agitator' on a Speed Queen. That dual action agitator fits on the hub of the Speed Queen....then you can have the best of both worlds
@jhomrich89
@jhomrich89 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think the dual action is patented as many manufacturers offer such a thing but speed queen is more focused on longevity and sees it as one less thing to break. I have had dual action agitator machines which I have had to replace the agitator dogs on them (the parts that make the dual action do its job) not a terribly difficult task but is minorly annoying when you're trying to do laundry and they break and your clothes aren't getting washed.
