@@miguelperez9906 while it effected me not that much, it was one of teh very best moments in any 40k book I have ever read. This scene summed up 40k for me, the endless terror, sacrfice and hopelessness he endures and even still where most are broken he stands firm even if he wishes he was allowed to just rest, he forces himself to serve and sacrifice so humanity endures the darkness (aka 40k humanity in a nutshell). I look very much forward to seeing him rule a modern baal where people dont die of thirst every minute.

I will have you stand with me as a mark of respect. I will order you not to if I must. I would rather our relationship not function on those terms. I have no time for deference, there is too much to do. Though, if your pains are great, you may of course sit", he said with the ghost of a smile. "Is this a dream or a vision?" "Neither. I live. I have returned to save the Imperium", said Guilliman. "Forgive me, my lord." Dante had to step back to look him in the eye. "I failed. I called together all the Chapters of the Blood, and lost them all to save Baal. The Arx Angelicum is in ruins. Thousands of Space Marines are dead, and Baal is devastated." "Forgive?" said Guilliman. "There is nothing to forgive, Dante. You stopped them. When we arrived, the hive fleet was greatly depleted, and easily destroyed. As we speak, the Indomitus Crusade is scouring this system of the last remnants of the tyranids. You have achieved what few others have, and destroyed a major hive fleet tendril. I would congratulate you, but there is nothing I can say that encompasses the scale of what you have achieved." Guilliman put a hand on Dante's shoulder. "You have saved Baal from the hive mind, Commander Dante, and with it the greater part of this segmentum". At that, Dante wept freely. "I am sorry, I am sorry", he said. "I almost lost. I almost lost everything. Please forgive me." "There is nothing to forgive." Dante did not hear. Overwhelmed by his hurts and the luminous presence of a living primarch, he collapsed to the ground.

Not gonna lie the whole book made me tear up from the whole drama of the kinship of the blood angel legion chapters to the end and Robouté's conversation with Dante. Devastation of Baal was amazing.. felt like a Horus heresy book

It's both sad an heartwarming to read Guilliman's behaviour with Dante. You can tell he misses his brother a lot, yet you can tell he's very glad to have someone so true to Sanguinius as Dante to lead the Blood Angels. Making him the Lord Commander of the Imperium Nihilus must have felt like a cruel callback to the Imperium Secundus.

They have a very interesting relationship because they both see the other as Sanguinius. Dante sees Guilliman as a noble and worthy leader who radiates hope. Guilliman sees Dante as a a humble man wholely committed to saving the imperium. They both have an emotional hole in them that the other fills. Its really wholesome to see them allow themselves to be vulnerable in each other's presence

I actually really like how sparsely decorated his armor is compared to many chapter masters. It Not only harkens back to an earlier age in the miniature skulpts, representing his age, but he also is an incredibly humble guy. I hope they never Primaris him

Wasn’t he already made into a Primaris? It’s been a while, but I believe at the end of The Devastation of Baal he and the remaining Blood angel became Primaris as well as receiving Primaris reinforcement. I could be wrong because I haven’t reread the book after it’s release.

I really like the story of Dante. In general, to be a Space Marine, let alone a heroic one or chapter master, you have to be genetically perfect and the best of the best physically - one in one thousand of the best canditates, who are themselves made up of one in one thousand of the best citizens. They are strongest of the strongest; and the smallest of physical imperfections means death. I myself was born with a congenital heart defect that has always caused me issues. So it's nice to know that with the blessing of the Emperor and a bit of luck, even those who were dealt a bad hand physically can become superhuman heroes of the Imperium. Determination and will can overcome any physical shortcoming if you have enough faith.

The most emotional moments about Dante, for me, were when the Devastation of Baal was done and he laid there half dying and delusional and he saw Sanguinius that told him he was his greatest son... That and when he was dragged to face Guilliman and he saw his father supporting him up and asked him if he was proud of him that he became an angel... Still brings tears to my eyes.

Lord Commander Dante is by far a figure of legendary status for his nobility, his ferocious fighting skills, his ideals of what it truly means be a Space Marines inspire billions, and truly a proud son of the Angel. Dante have gain the respect of all of the Imperium for being a Space Marine, but it is his human nature that will cement his legend as a corner of Imperial History.

@@Aristaios No, in the novel "Dante" the prophecy is read by Dante, in It it says that in the time of ending the "Devourer of Flesh" and the "Devourer of Souls" (Tyranids and Chaos) will reach the Golden Throne; and a las warrior in gold will be the only thing between them and The Emperor; this warrior is not one of The Emperor's golden protectors (Custodes) nor his own Herald (Sanguinor), but a warrior that has not yet been born, clad in full golden armor, at the end even that warrior will fall but in the last moment The Emperor looked back at Sanguinius and smile, ah if everything was in right order

It's funny and yet really sad that the ones keeping the imperium going, Dante as the regent of the dark imperium, Guilliman essentially leading the imperium and the Emperor himself stuck on the golden throne are ones who gave everything for the imperium and want to die are doomed with the responsibility of keeping the imperium and humanity from the eradication.

thats a fun thought, the emp being more powerful. but yer wrong. there are more souls worshipping the chaos gods. not humans, but your forgetting the elari and the tau and that any fighting benifits Khorne, so even the Necron can supply him with power indirectly, never mind that all four chaos gods are just aspects of chaos, and while worship might make the Emperor more powerful than a single chaos god, lets not forget chaos is the actual enemy. not just one side of it.

Dante is his bane because Dante would never feels such things slaying Lucius. He’d even feel sorry for him. Lucius will be completely screwed because Dante’s personality negates his revival hax.

My main point is that I find it rather funny that in sci-fi, titles just have things added to them in order to make it sound cooler. Like "Grand Admiral", "Supreme Chancellor" or "High governor".
