I like to think of as the album as a whole..a rock a billy / Southern Gothic / love tale with this Lovecraftian center that leads to either a lit void or an endless dark void.... where sometimes demkns named the world ender can come out and slash throats and steal souls in the name of sweet revenge but also anyone else who makes contact with his empty eye sockets

I am unable to listen to any other music besides Lord Huron since I discovered three of their albums on Pandora, I was given a three-month free subscription. I've been telling everyone about this band. Now that they live in LA I hope I can see them live someday in Orange County when they finish their tour around America this summer. I had just gotten back from two weeks in Dixie where I visited Six States by car through little towns, skipping the big cities except New Orleans which we love so much. When I listen to Lord Huron it reminds me of New Orleans and our road trip around the Deep South. It feels very nostalgic and romantic and a tiny bit French. I just sent this song to my son. I think he'll love it. He was my road trip partner. 😊🎉

I know this song is about a guy who desperately loves a girl that clearly doesn't deserve him, but in my mind the song reminds me of a girl who loves a guy already a relationship and tries to forget him but the guy is a friend so they see each other often and it breaks her heart every day. I always hated love triangle plot lines but I feel obsessed with this imaginary story when I hear that song... I feel like it could be good if handled properly. Kinda like A Tale of Two Cities.

Not necessarily.. Treat it as an ode to love when he least expected it, to someone he least expected it from! Quite brilliant! With it's undertones of not understanding why, he never actually states he hates it! It has opened up a new persona for him and he is trying hard to cope with his emotions over it. It is BRILLIANT! It is a true 'love song' for someone who did not expect it, and didn't realise his own vulnerabilities to this 'different, 'true', 'real', 'confusing' feeling of being truly in love with someone! It is, to me at least, the words of a stalwart single grasping at explanations and excuses for feelings they did not feel they were capable of. It is 'the confusion' of devoted love, and it is so different to your normal love songs! It is, in essence, a masterpiece! BTW, A Tale of Two Cities is still brilliant!
