If keeping it real is always being negative and not doing anything to contribute to today's culture then he can fuck off, and the same goes for you. We're the ones who have to "keep it real" in an economy that they helped to create. Any predecessors that want to tell our generation that we're soft or weak need to go to hell. Look at the mess we have inherited and they expect us to to bow to their every order on how we should live our lives. Fuck that. We're pissed off, we're showing it and we're damn sure doing what the fuck we please.

The reason most you disagree is because of the generation gap. In his / my day you couldnt rock tight pants, get both ears pierced, and certainly couldnt wear anything resembling women clothes. You just had to be alive back then to really get my point. Dave Chappelle mentioned white executives wanting him to wear a dress and when you think about it alot of black actors wore dresses. Why arent white men wearing man skirts? Why is all the focus on black men in skirts? Jamar is on to something.

Harry Brown You are never getting anywhere significant in your life until you change your sickly thoughts. If propagating to culture to new heights is considered a sin, then you can attend your congregation by your lonesome. We all want to move forward in life and in culture. If you do your fact finding, you'd actually realise that Kanye has a net worth far more superior to that of his so called 'boss'. Whilst a CEO, he is not actually Kanye's boss per se. Look at Kanye's albums, listen to what he says or how he sometimes uses what some might regard as deragatory language towards white people and you tell me if he does things just to please his boss. Kanye is 100% in control of his musical and cultural output. A lot of the major pop stars aren't that's why they struggle to make an impact as significant as say, Kanye or Jay Z's.

Yoush Mansh To say the Jewish people running the Industry have less power and money than Kayne is silly. Lyor was running a Subsidiary Label (Def Jam iirc) which is nothing more than the many, many branches of the 4 Majors like Universal Music that run the whole show. The ones involved in running and owning Viacom and Universal make more money than either one of them no doubt. Are you just defending Jewish folks becuase your Jewish? People need to step outside the tribe they were born into and look at things more objectively. I don't say these things out of hate. I'm just pointing out what people commonly already know about the entertainment business and the types of people involved in it.

hip-hop is a way of life, a culture. the fact that people are narrowing hip-hop down to a fucking skirt is beyond me. it's funny how people claim that the intertwining of apparel/general fashion with hip-hop MUSIC brings the culture down, yet VETERANS and LEGENDS like lord jamar can't help to say "skinny jeans aren't hip-hop." not only is it hypocritical, but it ignorantly simplifies an art, a brilliant one at that.

Just for the record, straight dudes wearing skinny jeans didn't come from Kanye. Tight pants in the music industry originated in the classic rock and metal of the 80s and then punk rock really made skinny jeans appealing to young, straight males. Since punk is (or was) a big part of the skateboarding world, that's a big part of why you see a lot of skaters wearing skinny jeans. I've also noticed that in recent years, rappers like Lil Wayne see that skateboarding is becoming more popular so they try to "dress" and "act" like skaters and steal from "urban streetwear" (brands like RVCA, WESC, LRG, DGK, Neff) to increase their fanbase (basically, they're posers). Also, skinny jeans have continued their legacy in rock music as they are - and have been for a while - very popular in rock and metal subgenres like metalcore, pop punk... etc. So yeah, straight guys these days wearing tight clothes really has nothing to do with hip hop.

ABunchOfDeadBunnies Also, it's important to remember, that a lot of what people call skinny jeans are mistaking straight fit and taper as skinny jeans. If people look at Run DMC, LL Cool J., etc, they wore straight leg and taper jeans. This clown didn't get really well known till peeps started wearing super baggy jeans, and they sagged. That is why Lord Jamar is an ignorant fool.

You misunderstood. Jamar was speaking on Hip Hop. Kanye influenced skinny jeans on this generation of Hip Hop. Kanye may have been inspired from the grunge era and everything else you mentioned. Alot of people are influenced from things way before their time without knowing the source. So Kanye copied people. But people copied Kanye. It is true that the masses of my generation concerning skinny jeans in hip hop is was primarily influenced from Kanye. And he has at least 3 undeniable classic albums in hip hop which have influenced and inspired many artists of today aswell.

I think it is true; our persona as black men (especially those of us who represent the urban "hardcore" cultural style) is a tough pill to swallow for contemporary Caucasian america. Damn, its deep... if you can't control your enemy then having your enemy strive for your approval, acceptance and immolation is the next best thing, I guess. If there is an obscurity as to your sexual orientation how sure and sound can your ideals in relation to greater issues (spiritual, social, economic, educational, and political reform) be? I mean, what can you expect a dude with a skirt on to do when it comes down to either being a man of being a woman -because that time is coming. These devils are trying to choke us with this homosexual agenda just as it was in Sodom and Gomorrah (read your Bible and your Quran). We are almost there again, the time of Sodom and Gomorrah are upon us, in those two cities homosexuality was so rife and accepted all the avenues of government were control/influenced by the homosexual agenda and lifestyle; if you weren't gay no business would be done with you.. This is all part of the Devils plan. with all due respect.

are you suggesting that by wearing a kilt, kanye west has advanced satan's agenda on the planet earth? that's intense
@abdulkhafidsulaymaan
@abdulkhafidsulaymaan 10 жыл бұрын
it is intense because this is a war between good and evil. The Devil wants the sons of Adam ('alayhis salaam) to join him in Hell Fire, making men feminine and making femininity an accepted and sought-after choice in a society is a great accomplishment for the devil. this will lead a lot of people astray. if this does not out-rightly lead people astray it will make it hard for the people to accept and seek correct guidance. the devil will take what ever he can get as long as it means people will be lead astray away from the guidance and salvation of God. Yeah, it is intense man. In the Quran it says the Devil has power over two categories of people: 1). those who associate partners with God, 2). those who befriend the Devil- those who take the Devil as a friend Those movies where people sale their soul to the Devil, that is a real plot and people are doing that. The Devil is our avowed enemy. The Devil told God that he would lead us to Hell Fire with him -he told God! There is no greater enemy to mankind than one who tells God he will lead us astray. The Devil hate us, please realize that. Some of these human people are devils who have been duped by the Devil, some of these human devils are tools for the Devil and are being used to bring more people over to the Devil, over to the Devils plight. feel that

Where was the racism? Where was the homophobia? I've always noticed that whenever someone black speak truth and mention white people, only the white supremacists have a problem with it. Especially when someone black point out the actual racist things that white people actually do, white supremacist always have an issue with that. Not saying that Lord Jamar said anything about racist whites because he didn't, all he had to do was mention the word white people and you call that racist. No, you're just a white supremacist who don't like truth when it comes to anything about white people. And what he said wasn't even a shot at white people. He's talking about the fùcking rappers. Then you speak of him being homophobic. Why? Because he's saying how guys are dressing in the same fashion as homosexual guys do? Something that is actually valid. I've also noticed that whenever someone bring up homosexuality and isn't supporting it, only gay people have a problem with it. Are you gay? You must be since you feel so strongly about it. If you are, that's your thing but don't pretend to be offended just because someone mentioned the word gay. Idiots such as yourself don't even know what the fuck to be angry about. He said nothing bad about homosexuals nor white people but he says the words and you come in with your fake outrage. Am I racist for saying whites are racist? Of course you're going to think I'm a racist for stating a fùcking fact when we have and unimaginable amount of documented evidence of whites being just that for fùcking centuries against black people and other people of color. Am I homophobic for saying that these guys who claim straight are dressing like homosexuals. Of course you're going to think so, yet it's a fact. You can call someone homophobic and racist but yet you can't point out what that person said that was either. Get the fùck out of here you dumb fuck. You fucking scum white supremacist demon.

You just gotta laugh at an old washed up NY rapper explaining how there are guidelines within the Hip Hop community. Huge part of the reason NY fell off. Too insecure to hop on certain beats or do features because they think it may have an association to homosexuality etc. And are afraid of how people may perceive them.

You guys remember when Jay-Z made a skinny jeans diss track? Funny, because this guy says Kanye introduced the skinny jeans style, but Kanye and Jay are so close. Respect to Brand Nubian, but Jamar need to change he's attitude a little. But when it comes to men in skirt.... Im not down with that hhhh.

A lot of people don't remember, but the whole revival of skinny jean shit was not hip hop originally. I mean yeah, in the day, like NWA was at least rocking jeans that fit. Then the style in the early 2000's was baggy everything. But mid-2000's, skateboarding was very popular and it was the skateboarding culture and the skinny jeans from that which brought it back into style

this guy is wildin out. fashion evolves. folks wore tight jeans back in the early days of the game. they dont do that no more. the tights jeans we see in hip hop is result of white rock n roll heavy metal style that has influenced the game. since the rap game became more popular it resonated with a larger crowd. many acts started to merge and associate with rock n roll groups. these groups dressed differently. many newer rappers were coming from this style of music and ther dress eximplified that. as a result stylists and fashionistas found ways to merge these two and give hip hop a broader look. instead of timbos and baggy jeans or versace suits all the time the skateborder punk style of dress got added to that. hence the lil waynes and lupe fiascos. so tiht jeans has nothing to do with gay. yes gay men do wear tigt jeans but rappers today re into it becasue of other influences n the game since its evolution.

u make a very interesting point. the idea of evolution is quite thought provoking. i mean this as no disrespect whatsoever, if one of these popular rappers, let's say wayne or kanye started wearing tank tops and a thong showing out their pants like the way chics used to dress, do we consider that an 'evolution' of fashion as well? is it something that should be cosigned or accepted in hiphop culture? or is it just a case of people following anything their favorite artist does without even thinking?

In Hiphop its better and much more accepted to talk about killing your rival or going to prison for some petty reason but wearing leopard print pants (which I do not support lol) is somehow seen as outrageous? If Kanye's wardrobe means there are less dumb people listening to and participating in Hip-Hop than I welcome it. This "serious" form of Hip-hop yall dudes seem to thirst after has only brought our community misery. I've seen far too many "upper/middle class wanna be gangsters" to think Hip-Hop is not a major factor. So what negative effect does Kanyes wardrobe truly have? The Hip-Hop you advocate also promotes the idea that selling drugs is a badge of honor. You could have 0% skills on the mic but as long as you have "street cred" you can have a fanbase? GTFOH If anything THAT is what is wrong with Hip-Hop. Most of yall forgot back in the 90's, HipHop was under attack by the gov't. This is back when we had Public enemy, Iced-T's killer Cop, etc. Their music had a message and was seen as a threat. When they realized due to the 1st Amendment they couldn't prevent Hip-Hop from being created, they instead IMO sought to destroy it from within. After that it was a rise of Gangsta Rap to the point where that was all that was out there. Now you can be as ignorant and self destructive as you want to be. Having any message of positivity is seen as corny now.. isn't that funny? Now a dude could be a monster on the mic, but if no one believes he will pop a cap in their ass for stepping on his Timbs, he won't even get a chance to be on your playlist. So what is the bigger threat? That or Kanye's wardrobe?
