Lord Krishna Warns - AVOID THIS to Progress in Spirituality | Swami Mukundananda | Bhagavad Gita

Swami Mukundananda explains the meaning of Bhagavad Gita Slokas 2.42 and 43 where Lord Krishna warns us to avoid one segment of the Vedas if we aspire spiritual progress. The Vedas are divided into three sections. These are: Karmakaṇḍ (ritualistic ceremonies), Jnana-kaṇḍa (knowledge section), and Upasana-kāṇḍ (devotional section). The Karmakaṇḍ section advocates the performance of ritualistic ceremonies for material rewards and promotion to the celestial abodes. Those who seek sensual pleasures glorify this section of the Vedas.
The celestial abodes contain a higher order of material luxuries, and offer greater facility for sensual enjoyment. But elevation to the heavenly abodes does not imply a concurrent spiritual elevation. These celestial planes are also within the material universe, and having gone there, when one’s account of good karmas gets depleted, one again returns to the planet Earth. People with limited understanding strive for the heavenly abodes, thinking that is the whole purpose of the Vedas. In this way, they continue transmigrating in the cycle of life-and-death, without endeavoring for God-realization. However, those with spiritual wisdom do not make even heaven their goal. The Muṇḍakopaniṣhad states: “Those, who practice the ostentatious rituals prescribed in the Vedas for enjoying the celestial pleasures of the higher abodes, think themselves to be scholars of the scriptures, but in reality they are foolish. They are like the blind leading the blind.”

Ans 1 the real purpose of the vedas is to attain god. 2 the vedas abound in karmkand to gradually elevate the soul to the supreme entity that is God. It is difficult to elevate a tamasic or rajasic person straightaway to nirgun state. Tamasic person has to be elevated to rajasic mode by prompting him to perform actions to attain worldly happiness. Similarly rajasic person can be elevated by parting with him the knowledge beyond the world. It is like a sugar coated pill. A child won't take the bitter pill. But if it is sugar coated the child will smilingly take it.

Oh thank you, you have answered a question. I was asking Lord Krishna, why one minute it seems we are to learn worldly attainment and the next to realize God, I did get confused. Lord Krishna says you must be moderate in all things to attain Him. That is to be balanced in spiritual sciences as well as the material science. Maintenance of the body is required to advance spiritually. One who eats too much or too little can't attain this Yog, Arjuna. He says there is no one greater than the Yogi so please be a Yogi, Arjun. The thing is, devotion is indespensible for everyone. God loves the humble and simple hearted. Answer : 1. The ultimate purpose of the Vedas is to take the soul towards God. 2. God takes care of everyone. Of those who want him and also who don't want him. That is why Vedas are abound in Karamkand. People who are not interested in attaining God, get easily attracted only towards these rituals. The explanation is not complete. I mean what do you mean by what if somebody doesn’t want god, and providing them instructions in a holly book of not following the god, if it is the wrong path why to help someone to achieve it? Or not achieve it. In that case why not to have a separate section on how to butcher and rape people? In christianity the explanation is much better. It just says that the goodies described in the Old Testament ( vedas ) are symbolic. They are still about the soul and not the material benefits. It is us, humans, that understand it that way.
