Lord of the Isles (Scottish Gaelic music)

I've uploaded the second tune here before but how could I not include it in a video about Clan Donald? Here we have Capercaillie's "Alasdair Mhic Cholla Ghasda" about the hero Alasdair Mac Colla along with "Smeorach Chlann Domhnaill" by Julie Fowlis set alongside a variety of imagery inspired by the Lord of the Isles. Did an ancestry trace. MacDonald MacLean, and MacNeil clans. Am a direct descendent of Somerled (I believe 16-17 generations back). Interesting for sure, but it gives a new perspective of everything for me.

Anyone assuming this is a representation of general Scottish culture is mistaken. The language is Scottish Gaelic, which was spoken more widely on the Scottish mainland hundreds of years ago but is now pretty much confined to the west Highlands and western isles. The Outer Hebrides, where my family are from, were part of the Norse-Gaelic Kingdom of the Isles, under Norse rule up to the 13th century. My family came from a few miles up the coast from St. Clement's Church, which is seen at 3:31 on this video. Most of the place names, lochs and hills there have Norse names rather than Gaelic ones. The Lewis chess pieces 1:30 were found about 30 miles north of St. Clement's and are of Norse origin.

I have Scottish blood on my fathers side. But sense she was adopted he will not look for his birth parents or even try to get interested in ancestery. Only get interested in his non biological families story. That's a frustrating part.
