Germany’s chart-topping LORD OF THE LOST announce the release of their new live album and DVD/BluRay, LIVE at W:O:A, out August 2, 2024, via Napalm Records! Featuring strong live versions of 16 original hits and two cover songs performed together with German 90s pop sensation Blümchen, LIVE at W:O:A was filmed and recorded during the band’s first-ever performance on the Wacken main stage, as “deadliners” after the iconic headliner Iron Maiden (with whom LORD OF THE LOST has shared the stage on two European tours). Tens of thousands of fans from all over the world celebrated in front of the stage late into the night with the band, which vocalist Chris Harms describes as “a dream come true”.
On the DVD version of LIVE at W:O:A, the particularly energetic and dynamic camera work emphasizes the extreme energy of a LORD OF THE LOST concert, as the band performs a balanced set full of surprises. Today, the band reveals a live version of “Drag Me To Hell”, a fan favorite that has over 2.2 million video views on the original version.

Sie mögen ja Leute ziehen ohne Ende, aber mit Metal im ursprünglichen Sinne, hat das nix gemeinsam. Aber egal, für die feierwütige Party-Gemeinde des WOA wohl ein besonderer Höhepunkt. Hauptsache innere Feuchte Wassergehalt stimmt.

Der Übergang von Metal in den Mainstream hat mit der Beginn der Entstehung von Subgenres in den 1980er Jahren begonnen. Das hat die Szene fragmentiert und musikalisch zu einer Abkehr von den ursprünglichen stilistischen und ideologischen Merkmalen geführt. Mindestens mit dem kommerziellen Erfolg von Metallica hat sich der Publikumskreis so verbreitert, das es zwingend zu einem stilistischen Einfluss durch andere Musikrichtungen kommen musste. Das ist ein nahezu typischer Verlauf, den zum Beispiel Jazz, Punk und Techno auch genommen haben und dabei ebenfalls stark an Varianz zugenommen haben: The Clash, Ramones, Herbie Hancock. Man könnte so weit gehen und diesen Prozess als den Motor zu betrachten, ohne den überhaupt keine neue Musik mehr entstehen könnte. Setzt man "Metal im ursprünglichen Sinne" so an, dass es stilistisch dem Spektrum in der Zeit vor Metallica entspricht, finden sich im Wacken-Lineup 2024 je nach Strenge der Betrachtung grob 15 von 180 Bands, die dieser Klassifikation entsprechen. Deinem Urteil zu Folge wären somit 93% aller Bands sozusagen neumoderner Unsinn.

@@JayVeeEdge Ich stimme deinem kleinen Exkurs in die Musikgeschichte und deren Mechanismen zu, da ich das auch nicht anders sehe und beurteile. Dein Abschlußsatz bereitet mir etwas Bauch- und Kopfschmerzen, da du mir unterstellst, ich könnte nicht über meinen eignen musikalischen Tellerrand hinausschauen. ich höre auch neure und micht-metallische Musik gerne und bezeichne sie NICHT als Unsinn. Mit mindestens 50% der Bands des gerade gelaufenen WOA 2025 kann ich ganz gut leben und finde sie überzeugend bis gut. LotL sind für mich aber eine Band, die eher aufs Rock am Ring passen und nicht aufs WOA. Ist eben meine rein subjektive Meinung, die mir kein verbieten kann und die ich eben auch öffentlich vertrete.
