Amazon had the core sets at less then $18 with free shipping about a year ago...ended up purchasing 3 sets. Watched all your videos on the game and tried the first level 1 quest with a tactics deck. Failed badly...so I tried a few more games and just couldn't get it! Put the game up on a shelf and haven't touched it again till just now! xP Played the same scenario with the leadership deck and just blew through 3 easy wins on the first quest. I LOVE tactics on paper...I like smashing things in the face in my card games hehe...but it's so dang tricky to get mono tactics to work with the lack of willpower. Anyhow...no idea why I'm sharing this xP. Thanks for the videos man...they've been so much help to me! Glad I found this game again! Having a blast with it lately :D

Just wanted to add a quick "thank you" for this series. I got this game for Christmas, read the rules and then played it... poorly. I didn't understand the rules well, and I kept getting things wrong and had to look up rules constantly, even though I had also watched the official FFG videos. So, I watched your series and by the end I understood how to play and picked up some strategies as well. Thanks a lot. Now if you could just do series about how to get my wife to play the game with me.... :)

I purchased this a while back as I have an interest in LOTR product (my license plate even reads FRODO). But after watching one video by a well known game reviewer I set it down as it looked far too complex. He made the strategy portion look arduous and slow. However I just now looked into videos and found this very old one and since you have a way of simplifying the hardest games I decided I will drag it out and attempt a solo game. Sometimes the teacher makes all the difference between fail and success!

Hey Rodney, I love the channel! Your reviews are some of the best out there. I have a question. Are you a fan of the Tolkien universe and, if so, how accurate are the cards and their flavor texts to the actual literature?
@WatchItPlayed9 жыл бұрын
I am a fan of that universe, but I wouldn't say that I am a rabid fan. I've read the books, including the ones not part of the movie series, but I haven't studied the material closely enough to say I could assess how accurate the flavour text is. Much is from the books I think. Feels right to me.

hey Rodney, I know this video is around 6 years old, and when you made this video I bought this game because of you, and I still enjoy playing whenever I can, My question is do you and Pep play this game still?
@WatchItPlayed7 жыл бұрын
Hey Ryan, glad to see you enjoyed the video. I should warn you, I wouldn't assess anything on how often I get to play games (my schedule with the show often means I'm not playing games as frequently as my interest in them allows). Let's put it this way, I still buy product for the game, for when I do get some downtime.

I just bought a used 2nd edition version for under $30 with shipping and tax on Noble Knight Games (I believe the same edition you're using here). I love MTG but it's such a money suck! As a massive LOTR fan, I'm pretty excited about this. Thanks for the tutorials 🙏

Not having to chase random cards is certainly one of the benefits of this style of game (while still giving you the deck building and card play elements!)

Arg...you are going to cost me a diaper load of money here! Every game I watch I absolutely MUST have. So far I'm in for Small World (that game looks totally awesome) I just got done watching Mansions of Madness and I have my fingers crossed in hopes I win the 7 Wonders game and not have to buy that one. I need to quit watching these because this game looks great too and I have enough friends to play this one lol.

Hi Rodney, thanks to your series, I was able to complete my first game. I played the initial scenario, Passage Through Mirkwood, using the lore set. What a slaughter!!! I only managed to get 2 progress tokens on the main quest, 1A, for the entire game, until my threat level reached a mortal level of 50. This game is tough!!! I have a question about a treachery card I came across, Caught in a Web, when revealed, it attaches to one of your heroes, causes your hero to exhaust, and they can't ready unless paying 2 resources. Does this effect last indefinitely? That was so bad. I mean, let's be honest, ultimately it wasn't going to matter much, as I felt like I had no chance. I'm going to try again using a different set. Perhaps the tactics sphere of influence, which you used during your video series.
@WatchItPlayed Жыл бұрын
Caught in a Web is tough! You played that right. And you're also right: the game can be challenging, but I think you'll find you get better as you play. All the best :)

Hi. Was wondering if you could explain how to use the event cards with an X printed on them. I've read something online but still not sure how they work. Thank you 👍
@WatchItPlayed5 жыл бұрын
Hey Wayne, I do my best to answer all game rule questions, but I avoid specific card effects as that’s a little too much for me to handle with all the games we’ve covered. The forums at BoardGameGeek might be able to assist!

Trying a 4 player version of this today. Rodney do you think it can be done? We are going to keep track of 2 additional threat trackers using pen and paper.
@WatchItPlayed4 жыл бұрын
It can be done, the game tends to go a little longer. Good luck :)
