Great review, guys! I ran this game by my group (we've all played 5E on and off for years) and they were REALLY excited! I now have all the supplements so far (Moria looks terrifying!) and I can't wait to run a campaign. 🤓👍

Thanks great review! This book is now available for $35 via the world’s largest mail order company. I think you might see a bit of a revival as more people are willing to buy it at that price point. Again thanks for the great review.

I read in another review that this version allows you to use many of the One Ring mechanics instead of 5e if you wish and to use the One Ring dice too. Is that correct? If so i think that makes it more attractive to people like me who prefer not just sticking to 5e but whose player group members are more comfortable with 5e. That way I will have a useable book no matter whether I can convince them to stick a toe in the water of another system or not.

There is a section on using the One Ring dice with this book instead of d20.

Hi! Do you guys know where I can find Non-Enchanted rewards in the Book? I can't see to find it anywhere in the book. In the "Heir of Arnor" Virtue, it says I can upgrade a Numenorean crafted weapon with Non-Enchanted rewards as if it was a normal item. Thank you!

Are these martial classes essentially the same as those used in their 5e Ruins of Symbaroum?

Hey guys, great review and quite helpful. Still not sure whether to go for the 'One Ring 2e' or 'Lord of the Rings Roleplaying'; my gaming group are very pro 5e whereas I like trying other systems. I was also interested when you said you would compare this book with MERP as I used to play that system back in the late 80s and the 90s and thoroughly enjoyed it . Are you still intending to do that?
@RagingOwlbear Жыл бұрын
The One Ring is better, honestly. Callings (classes) will be very familiar to D&D players, but The One Ring uses a more skill based system. XP is spent directly into skills. There are no classes or pre-defined levels. I ran the Shire adventures (One Ring Starter Set) for my group and pretty much everyone loved it. I did have one player who is hard into the D&D combat and did not like the more abstract combat (stances) that The One Ring uses. Postscript -- I was not a fan of Rolemaster back in the day, so I don't have a strong feeling about MERP. What I can say is that even MERP fans that I've talked with agree that The One Ring and Adventure in Middle Earth did a better job of capturing the "feel" of the LotR setting. That same would apply to this book. But again, for my money TOR 2e is the winner (but I do own all 4 versions now -- TOR 1e, 2e, AiME and LotR RPG).

@@RagingOwlbear Thanks for that, that is really helpful. My group are mostly fairly new to RPGs and only really know D&D 5e, so trying to get them to consider other systems puts them out of their comfort zones. I, on the other hand, have been playing since c. 1981 and have played many other systems and enjoy trying new ones. I like the combat stances approach both in The One Ring and in another system that I discovered relatively recently, Legend of the Five Rings 5e, so I'm hoping my group will too.

Given the small number of adversaries in the book, i think i will take a look at the variant rules in AiME to provide more diversity. I'll probably also look to add creatures from AiME that they left out, like giant spiders
@rlmarin19685 ай бұрын
Ok…so I have heard repeatedly that you’ll need to know the 5e rules in order to play this campaign/setting. What specific rules is that? Outside of the action economy and combat…what other 5e base rules are needed if you play this using only the setting of LOTR?

How did Free League port the "Injury" mechanic to D&D 5e?
@Zaknus1 Жыл бұрын
The did not. Damage works like the core 5e rules dictate, however, it's not hard to port it as a homebrew as it was in tOR 2e.

@@Zaknus1 How would you do it? After receiving a crit, you make a CON saving throw against something. If you fail, you are Wounded?

@@18ps3anos after a first death saving throw, short rest does not heal HP and the next time you drop to 0 hp the charakter dies if a successfull healing check is not made. You also need d12 days to heal the injury minus 1 day for every 5 points above the ST.

Is this a stand alone product? Or do you need to own the 5e D&D books?

You will need the 5E D&D books, or at least access to the ruleset. The One Ring 2E RPG is its own game, but it's not 5E D&D.

Can you please give me a good reason to buy this having Adventures in Middle Earth? Thanks.
@sithkhan11 ай бұрын
AiME allowed for characters to really become as powerful or more than some of the famous names from the books. This version tones down character progression, and the short rest/long rest mechanics are much more daunting. I own both and as a Loremaster, this version creates more tension and drives strategic decisions. Regardless, I hope your group enjoys their time in Middle Earth!
