@flowerfaerie Elrond’s own identical twin brother was Elros Tar-Minyatur, the first King of Numenor who chose the life of Men and was dead for 6000 years by the time of the Council of Elrond. Arwen is indirectly lrelated to Aragorn, it’s gross as hell.

@@michaelktran Gandalf and Elrond are the only two who truly understand the Ring's nature. Anyone with any amount of ambition or shred of darkness in them is a plaything for the ring. Even Aragorn, as honorable and good as he is, would have been crushed by the Ring. The Ring works by feeding on your desires, your wishes and ambitions. It floods your mind with thoughts and promises and images of your ambitions taken to their most extreme. But a Hobbit? A Hobbit has no greater aspiration or ambition than a warm bed, fine company and good food. What images did the Ring show Sam? Mordor being turned into a garden. That's it. That is the darkest, most twisted thing the Ring could pull out of Sam and tempt him with. Because when you want for nothing but the comforts of home and simplicity, the Ring has nothing to grab onto save how beautiful you may find it. It's like trying to climb a sheer cliff face after it rains.

The look on Elrond's face. He knows about hobbits. But he never had to deal with one, who actually tried to hide. Throughout the books it is repeated over and over again how stealthy hobbits are. Bilbo probably never hid before the elves and this is the first time in Elrond's milenia of experiences that he got surprised by not one, not two, but three hobbits who even him as lord of the elves with their keen senses could not perceive when they did not want to be perceived.

I only recently started listening to an audiobook of Fellowship and I actually really love how Elrond here says "Nine Companions...." here in the film. For context, in the book, Elrond purposefully sets out to have Frodo accompanied by 8 companions, reasoning that these 9 companions would be a light reflection the 9 Nazgûl and Pippin was originally rejected from joining the Fellowship until he was convinced otherwise. In the film however, when Merry and Pippin join in and declare that they're gonna stick by Frodo through thick and thin, he looks at them and only then realizes that there's 9 of them. Keep in mind that Elrond has the gift of foresight but here in the film he clearly never expected for there to be a group of 9 that would be willing to go save the world and immediately knew that it had to be fate.

It's so sad that Boromir, was realistically the only casualty out of all them. Everyone else survived but lost(and gained) pieces of themselves. Boromir just wanted to save his people. Hell, he didn't even want to go to the Council of Elrond. He was just a man who wanted to be a hero to his people, and his brother.

@Axel10518 ай бұрын
He died a hero. Boromir wasn’t the type to live to a ripe old age before dying in a bed. He was a warrior and I doubt he left the world with many regrets, other than the biggie which indirectly led to his death.

Frodo was a casualty too. He never recovered from weathertop, never recovered from carrying the ring and never really recovered from Shelob. He didn't die in the sense Boromir did, but Frodo was dead spiritually the moment he was stabbed with a morgul blade

@@VotingHarmonythe Ring was too strong for almost anyone. The Hobbits and the Dwarves were probably the only two races who could have handled it. Hobbits do not have lofty ambition and are fundamentally good, simple folk and hard to corrupt and the Rings didn't effect dwarves the way they were supposed to. Though the inherent selfishness of dwarves and their love of Gold would probably have seen them just throw it in a vault somewhere. Gimli could have probably carried it, he was fairly unique in that he didn't have any real lust for treasure, especially after meeting Galadriel, though he also was very likely to lose it in battle

It is pretty weird to imagine that the full fellowship was only together for a brief moment - they left Rivendell, fumbled around on Caradhras for a while and were like "no thanks", and went through Moria instead, and then Gandalf was lost, and then they never fully came together again.
@arthaiser4 ай бұрын
well... it was 21 days until gandalf parted ways and another 42 until boromir died and the rest were separated, so... not really brief. 28 days after the separation the ring is destroyed, so they stayed together basically 1/3 of the entire mission and more than 2/3s if you dont count gandalf

In retrospect it was a quite silly for them to expect 7 people to sneak into a mountain gaurded by a sleepless orc army and the ring wraiths. They didn't really have any plan at all, it was basically just to "wing it" and hope they'll figure something out when the time came. Legolas' blind faith claim that this was the only path available to them was completely wrong, and Boromir was right - their quest really would have and should have failed multiple times over. It succeeded only due to a number of divine coincidences, and also the presence of several invincible super weapons like the undead army that could have exterminated the orcs from the entire continent if they were used properly. Its a great movie but as a simulation for how to conduct a war or perform clandestine operations I think it is deeply misguided
