@Arsh Dhawan That's absolutely nonsense. Anyone who has read Tolkien, JRK and Martin's works know the difference. It may seem similar on the surface level but it's entirely different. Also, Tolkien did not introduce the world to wizards, elves, orges or other fantastical creatures. These tropes can be dated back to thousands of years. Tolkien's contribution to fantasy is undeniable but saying that others just rearranged his story is trash talk.

You're right about the obvious similarities between LOTR and Harry Potter to inspiration yahin kahin se aya hai ye baat to hai. Lekin fir LOTR was the benchmark for this kind of fantasy genre jiska ki simplified version catered towards a comparatively young audience Harry Potter ko keh sakte hain.. Harry Potter though in itself ek kaafi acchi series hai but is nowhere close to the masterpiece LOTR is in terms of how intricately the story is woven and the sheer layers being presented by JRR Tolkien. Like both of the stories have the same base plotline which hooked the readers of the time and the stories/ writing style was completely different. So I think it's just a see a of authors trying to hook people with a good plot they already like and doing their own stories based about it

alright, so in response to your question, the themes in lotr and harry potter are recurring themes in high fantasy fiction. ursula k le guin's a wizard of earthsea and alison croggon's the naming have such similar themes, but are very different from lotr and hp because of storytelling. think of themes and archetypes in storytelling as resume templates. you can use a template available in google docs but it will only do so much to increase your chances of being hired. what you put in it is what will get you the job. themes and archetypes exist because humanity has been telling stories since centuries. but our stories are different because of how we tell them, and the reason why lotr and hp actually feel different because the story being told is different, in spite of common themes.

Lord of the Rings can be called the Godfather of fantasy genre. Tolkein did fantastic job, getting inspiration from ww2 and norse mythology and created something legendary. And Peter Jackson gave us the visuals....something i don't think can easily be topped. Even after 20 years...each movie still feels like new every time I watch it. Now what Rowling did, only she knows, you can call it copy, you can call it taking inspiration from the OG. But no one can deny the huge similarities between these two. Dark Lord Sauron=Voldemort Frodo=Harry Gandalf=Dumbledore The one ring=Horcrux Nazguls=Dementors Gollum=House Elf Shelob=That big spider i forgot name of Both Sauron and Voldemort trying to come out from shadow....like you just can't unsee the similarities. But OG is always OG...this is why Rowling's so called Dark Lord couldn’t even get rid of a school boy🤣 You can say HP is the kids version of the legendary Lord of the Rings.
