The PS2 and Xbox version of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith follows this exact format as the Lord of the Rings games. Nowhere near good though (and given that it was hyped by Lucasfilm as "The Ultimate Jedi Action Experience" when Jedi Academy did better at even that...).

Not often you can say a game was ahead of its time but these games were ahead of their time. Each character had tombs of moves you could unlock or weapons at their disposal and we actually got to play exact battles from the films I'd love a next gen reboot or a LotRs battlefront type game but made by someone other than EA

I would give so much to play this game one last time ;_;. I saw a cassete of lord of the rings 3 on my parents table when I was very young and asked if I could watch it, they said yes. I thought the movie was amazing but it missed some things (because I hadn't seen the other 2). My parents noticed me and my brother loving the movie so they bought this game for us. This game had some cutscenes from the first and second LOTR movie so it was our way of finding out what happened in them. Years of playing through this game over and over me and my brother went with our mother to one of those places where you can buy used things for a cheap price and funny enough I found LOTR 1 AND LOTR 2 at a table somewere. I grabbed them and ran to my mom and asked if we could buy them and we could!! Me and my brother then watched both movies together in one sitting. I remember it well even if it was so long ago. I really apreciate these movies since they have had a huge impact in my life :)

I remember playing this opening level for the first time as a kid, and once the transition from movie to gameplay happened, I screamed and picked up my controller because I wasn't expecting that. The fact that you can see the rest of the entire battle going on in the background also blew me away back then!

Because when the Fellowship of The Ring was released at the movies, the Xbox and Gamecube were being released, and it would have been awkward for them to do a multi-platform FOTR game. So they released this with 5 levels from that film. Although they did release a game called Fellowship of The Ring, it was based off of the book, and controlled completely differently. I remember not liking it that much.
