*Had camera issues and only recorded the first hour.

As part of the Michigan Gravel Race Series (MGRS), this is one of two unique races where a MTB is the better choice over a gravel bike. The race starts off with 5 miles of gravel then pops into singletrack for 5 miles. After about 18 miles of gravel after the singletrack, you're back again for 3 miles of singletrack and then finish with 5 miles of gravel. This race took place on September 9, 2023, in Middleville, Michigan.
The beginning 14:04 was fine and at a pretty chill pace for a start. As soon as we hit the first hill before the singletrack it went all out! A big group climbed like it was nothing but I had a forced hike a bike after a couple minutes due to soft sand. I completely blew up and couldn't really catch up going into the single track. The trail was ok but felt hard, however I felt like I had good control..... until I didn't. I crashed at 37:28 and fully landed in a creek.... WTF! I was soaked from head to toe. I got up quickly and the bike and I were ok. I noticed I lost my fuel bottle so had to go back and find it, which I did. I think I caught back up to a group that passed me after I crashed. I stayed with a strong group after the singletrack for the following hour. This was really hard as I felt completely spent and weak. I had to dig deep but happy I was able to hold onto the group, but just barely.
The second and final singletrack section went ok but I wasn't able to push. I came out alone after the singletrack and couldn't bridge up to a few guys that grouped up. They were just out of reach and I couldn't quite close it. I should have gone all in but I mentally gave up. This resulted in me riding the last gravel by myself. I held what I felt was a strong effort for the remainder of the race. I guess a silver lining was that no one passed me. Ugh, I expected a better performance but it just wasn't my day.
