Shen and Tai Lung and Kai are dark mirror images of Po, they represent who he could be.

I love Shen because he is both gorgeous, deadly and tormented, all perfectly mixed. He is beautiful indeed, bit he is also a living, sharp weapon. He is suffering inside, but he is so sadic that it is very difficult to totally empathyze with him. He is consumed by his own rage. He burns till the end, with no compromise, creating destruction and beauty, just like his fireworks. Shen is my favorite animated villain. ever!

The reason shen has his wolf army is because the wolves used to work in gongmen city and everyone treated them poorly except shen, so they offered their loyalty to him in return.

And how. The way he accepted defeat in his final split moment with grace rather than with denial was very much in character in a subtle but extremely poignant way too. He was a monster, knew he was a monster, but in his remaining nobility; to honour himself he had to go with the inner peace he had denied himself his whole life before that moment, as it was preferable to living in failure.

There's a deleted scene about shen's birth and childhood.. Apparently he was born a sickly child and his parents named him shen- meaning gift of the gods or endowed by the gods- as a means of hope. The soothsayer who was a shaman-healer was called on to heal him and she became his nanny and helped the boy healed. She taught him his knowledge of kungfu and first school lessons. That's why he is so intelligent and smart. She later saw that shen was too spoilt because of his sick childhood and been a prince, that he had arrogance and brutality within him which he used her training to exploit, thus using fireworks to make explosives. She reported him to his parents using the prophesy of black and white. Shen was fond of the soothsayer throughout the movie and his actions he felt was to show her how much he could survive despite all expectations against him pursuing his own dark ways instead of the way of a prince of peace that his kingdom expected from him.

@@BlakeAtStake no, he's not in the spirit realm. While he did die, the spirit realm is only where masters of Kung fu go. Shen wasn't a Kung fu master, infact, he wanted to end Kung fu entirety. Shen is just a very skills swordman, but not a Kung fu master.

Character creation and development is something I absolutely adore and very honestly, Shen is one of my favourite villains. Every frame and every second of him being on screen is so carefully incorporated, I could watch him for hours.

Lord Shen may be the weakest in physical fights but he’s the most evil intimidating and cunning warlord since he’s more of a po enemy and he killed lots pandas and killed po mom to prevent the prophecy

One of the greatest villains ever. Not only is his character brilliant but also the physical design is fantastic. Also the movie speaks of him being defeated by a black and white warrior and he gets defeated by Po who is black and white but also gets defeated by himself and he is black and white

In the novel, his parent's actually didnt care about him bc of how weak he is and how sickly he is, they usually bond with him but he doesn't feel happy cause of his parent's actually only bond with him whenever if he's having fun with ama.. "Nanny.." (the Soothsayer) and also the soothsayer is the only mother figure for Shen, that's the reason why he didn't hurt her..

I’m trying to make a story with a villain that effects the main characters emotions very Heavily. How can I achieve this while also making an engaging character as well as making some sympathy for them.

Make a moral dilemma with antagonist and protagonist, and then make sure to rationalize both positions and what it means to both of them. A good villain is a villain who theoretically could be seen as a hero if the perspective was different.

Lord Shen is my favorite villain! It really sucks how he died! I hope he and Wolf Boss return together and turn good because in his final moments with the soothsayer, I could see a small hint of remorse and regret in Shen's eyes.

Awesome review. Shen is one of my favorite characters in Kung Fu Panda. He is smart and a great martial artist. Shen and Tai Lung are two great Kung Fu Panda movies. However, I couldn't get into Kai. I hope one day Shen comes back. I am happy that he has a high score.

I haven't really heard anyone say this, but (apart from Shen having so much character and presence throughout the film) I guess... He just wasn't intimidating. Like at all... I mean from the start it was always clear, and literally revealed that he would lose to Poe, meaning the stakes weren't all that high for a Kung Fu Panda film, especially in comparison to the first. As a kid I was always so intrigued when the film spent time with him, but the whole time, he really was kinda scared of Poe. However, we haven't really seen any other villain like that before, cause I guess it's not a great idea in concept, but fortunately for him, Lord Shen did manage to shine elsewhere.

Po and Shen practically have different plot and character designs, Po has to learn to let his memories and past flow and let himself control his actions, while Shen doesn’t accept to let go of his past actions and decides to bury and resent his past and doesn’t let if flow, while his actions are all impulsive and disrupt the flow of control in his actions.

Shen is very much a self fulfilling prophecy character. By being told he will be defeated in the future by a panda, it drove him mad with both fear and ambition, setting about to kill all pandas, which ultimately set in motion his own downfall.

Shen is the best of the Kung Fu Panda villains. While Tai Lung is more physically forceful and impulsive, Shen is more calculating and strategic. He also has a more regal appearance as he wears white robes and has daggers that disguise as feathers. Tai Lung feels like Shifu’s antagonist and Kai feels like Oogway’s antagonist. But Shen feels like Po’s antagonist and acts as a true direct opposition to the panda’s physical and mental prowess.

in kung fu panda 1 oogway mentions "one often meets his destiny on the road to avoid it." it happens to shifu, he send the duck to check on tai lung. resaulting in a feather of the duck being used in his escape making the vision come true shen to avoid being defeated by a warrior of black and white attacks kills (what he tought) all panda's, leading to po's mother hiding him and led eventually to po becoming the dragon warrior and eventually face shen, and even in his last moment shen fight po to avoid being killed, cutting the cable resaulting in his death
