Love that you're getting into Rectos. I wrote them off for years because I'd only ever heard them sound like flubby mud. Who knew a drive pedal is all it takes to turn them into firebreathing monsters. I picked one up not too long ago and I play it all the time now. Great video!

I love how the Rectifier and the JCM 800 sound. Can't afford either, and that's ok. I did get a pair of DSL40's in a simple wet/dry rig. I like how your MESA gives a vintage channel that sounds like a Marshall with a MESA flavor and that the OD2 channel on my amps sound a bit like a Rectifier with a Marshall flavor. It's kinda funny to watch the two companies give their customers a taste of the other brand. I do have a MESA Throttle Box pedal as well that does a pretty decent job at giving a "Rectifier in a Box" sound. The Crunch channel with an SD1 does a decent job of giving that 800 sound. There is no true substitution for a real 800 or Rectifier like your amps, but it's close enough for the price. Your videos really helped me learn how to shape the sounds into something that sounds really good to me. That amp is aptly named after Lord Vader. Great sounds as always.

Completely agree. Spent a ton of money on boosts over the years only to find the sd-1 is probably my favorite. I recently got a waza version and it’s just as perfect - just with a couple more options.

Congrats, Euge. Very good addition to your collection. My Recto is from 2008. Modified by Woodoo Amps NY. I bought it used when visiting USA. What I really like about recto (beside the sound) is assignable loop which is realy usefull in live situations. Now I have to try it with SD1 in front😉

3 channel Dual Rectifier was my main (and only) amp for a long time, throughout the 00s...I spent hours tweaking and getting to know that amp outside of band rehearsals and shows. For distortion sounds I basically lived on channel 2, on Raw or Vintage mode, and kept EL34s in mine. I'm glad your video showcased those sounds, there is a lot more to these amps than channel 3 or the modern setting, which is what I think most people tend to associate with them.

Euge, try out Yellow Jacket YJR's in place of those 5U4 Rectifier Tubes. It converts the tube selection to Rectifiers so then you have two options; Rectifiers or Silicon Diodes. They just pop right in the tube socket and it was a fun way to get an little different sound. I always found the 5U4 tubes to be too saggy to be usable for heavier stuff.

Ah that riffing is mean with Lord Vader. I had a Rev F Recto; it was face melting brutal. You could assault people physically with that tone. It was so brutal I parted ways with it but Meshuggah picked it up so it got a good home. 😁🤘

Yo Euge. Sounds great. I believe the manual recommends EL34 tubes in Rectifier amps but they ship with 6L6 tubes. Maybe give that a go and see what that sounds like.

Thanks! Well that doesn’t make much sense does it 😁. All amps obviously ships with the tubes the designer designed them / tweaked / biased to but you have the option to use EL34s also. Which you can do with any amp but with Rectos it’s made a bit easier since the option was also designed in them without the need for the customer to mod the amp.

I think active Humbeckers bring out the pinch harmonice more than passives....i have a Jackson with Jackson actives and drives the front end of the modler better and easier to get the PH...

Euge - of course ... - makes a Rectifier sound good, tight and "Metal". Nonetheless, I immediately remember why back in 1992, when both Amps had arrived the German market, I preferred the 5150. By far. It's the marshallesque midrange bite and tightness that the Rectifiers are lacking in my opinion ... Compared to the 5150, the Rectifiers are rather "slow" amps, concerning the responsiveness at fast picking.

Sick! Did your friend paint the knobs or did he find black ones for sale =)? I'm having a trouble finding similar barrel style knobs in black for 6.3mm shaft. Also looking at anodized wild colors but they're mostly the wrong size. "Luckily" mine's a Single Recto so fewer knobs. EDIT: They're painted. Should watch before commenting.

@ I find if you have the drive at 9 o’clock on the ts9. it adds thickness as well as tightness and if I want more attack. I’ll just kick in the sd1 with the drive barely on. I use the boss mt2w for distortion. And I like that for a more thrashy sound. Got the idea from another KZbinr who was doing a Gary holt tone. That’s when I’m not stacking the hm2w for more of the 90s death metal modern hardcore type tones

Does Eric the tech fella have nice things to say about Mesa amps on the inside and servicing them? I ask because I follow a few amp tech channels who don't. Not just Mesa though. They point out issues with lots of amps, but Mesa seems to be the one that really gets them going. They explain why with the amps on the bench too, so it's not unfair. Fender reissue amps is another. Lots of issues with those. The early runs of JCM 2000 era Marshall of course too. Somebody might say they only care how an amp sounds, but for that to be true the amp has to work. P.S. I am not a tech myself. I do some modding though. Only on my Plexi clone. Nice and simple like working on old school cars before all the computers and stuff appeared under the bonnets.
